I absolutley love Sunderland's seafront, on a sunny day it's tremendous.

I really miss living in Roker, it was just a stone's throw away. Hearing the foghorn last night really brought some memories back.

Sunderland's a good place to live. Fuck anyone who says otherwise.

How long had the lights been going on then, my aunty use to take me every year and it was something i use to really look forward too as a kid. Walk down from my house into roker park all the way along the sea front it was f***ing magic as a kid that.

I had a few scousers up for the Liverpool match a couple of years ago - they didn't even know Sunderland was on the coast.

They were well impressed with the Seaside shuffle set of pubs

Roker Hotel
Smugglers
Queen Vic
Harbour
Wolsley

Neither did Super Kevin Phillips, even the people I work with are shocked when I show them that brilliant aerial shot of the Sol, with the harbour and sea beyond, I have got quite a lot to try it for a weekend and they love it, in fact appreciate it more than the people who live there, which is generally always the case whereever you live.

I think this is the one

Cracking photo, what id does show though is lack of investment on the riverside and how f***ing huge that vauxies site is. Id love our riverside to have had half the f***ing investment theres up the road has had.

They must get it right, no point in hurrying it ;).

Anywhere else in the country they would be clamouring to buy land and develop it, and this land is prime in my view.

When I show that picture to people they are shocked at how nice the area is and as I say the natural beauty is only admired by strangers generally, I think its great and I am not a Sunderland lad

Been having a look around for prints of Sunderland. I'm heading off to Oz soon and want some reminders of home. Came across this print which is quite poignant.

Departure of 'The Lizzie Webber', the First Emigrant Ship from Sunderland to Australia

Class stuff like. Been able to find the passenger list of those who went in 1852.

Mind I'm not sure what that lighthouse is in the background as I don't recognise that. So perhaps not painted by anyone who had been to Sunderland??

yep, that's all very interesting, 16 pages of interesting; pros and cons of urban regeneration, the age-old debate of which is best sunderland/nobcastle, fab pics BUT can you still actually get saveloy dips? I thought you could only get them at Ibbetsons, and haven't they gone?

Of course you can. Any amount of places on Chester Road / Sea Road / Town Centre etc.
Decent hangover cure.

I loved coming back to Sunderland when I lived away. Roker and Seaburn are great for bairns.

Roker Park and the walk down to the sea is magical for kids. Roker Hotel canny for bait, Bungalow Cafe for the view. Beach at the cat and dog steps is really good.

People need to appreciate what little we do have.

I'm up for the Wigan game this weekend and spending a couple of nights in the Roker.

Can't wait to have a pint by the sea

Great stuff everyone!

I have just lobbed in 2 days extra leave next week as a result of this thread. I want to go down the seafront and walk along the riverside in the great weather and appreciate what a great place Sunderland is.

I live in one of the most beautiful cities in Britain (Bath) but it doesn't have most of the things mentioned above and I miss Sunderland like fuck.

Oh and in response to the Pound shop, etc mentions. We don't have a single quid shop, Wilkinsons, etc in Bath and I would kill for one sometimes. The North East is a cheap and wonderful place to live; a lot of people from Sunderland don't seem to realise how good they have it.
