Agree fuck all has changed man really apart from the ice rink going. The pictures is better than the old one for a start, we didnt have a bowling alley before you had to come ower my side to do that.

Shops mate, used to be independent little shops knocking about dunno if it is the rent of these places but loads of shops have gone.

Supermarkets are killing little stores.

Most people want the super brands though mate these days. Times have changed, id love the bridges to be full of indy shops but there isnt really that big a market for them anymore.

Where is good in town to get decent meat, wine, cheese etc?

And pounds shops

I don't think he means in that respect, but the fact that every other 3rd shop is derelict, run down, or falling down.

What we need to do is knock now the already poorly used "leisure centre" - if that what you can call it, building an extra extension to "The Bridges" with shops/services we really need.

There are loads of empty shops, what should we do? I know, lets build a £100m extention to the bridges and open up loads of new units :lol:

Build it and they will come.

Seriously nobody wants to open a shop in Sunderland because its not a serious shopping centre.....pull down the Leisure Centre and extend the Bridges and it might be

Its not the right time to do it imo.

What the city centre needs is more non retail business - hopefully software city will improve things. More businesses = more people working in the city centre (from across the region) = more people with money in the city centre = more money being spent in the city centre = more demand for shops = more shops opening = more jobs = more people.... ad infinum

Exactly, and less chav £1 shops hopefully

I think most of us are, but it could be so so much better with some investment.

Couldn't agree more! And with Durham and northumberland we have great countryside too!

concurred, I would'nt want to live anywhere else.

This

It's one of the reasons that Newcastle works so well. There are loads of people working in and around the city centre, thus sustaining more businesses.

I'll be holidaying in Sunderland with the missus this summer and I can't wait! I really, really miss our seafront.
