Holidaying in Sunderland

I don't think he means in that respect, but the fact that every other 3rd shop is derelict, run down, or falling down.

What we need to do is knock now the already poorly used "leisure centre" - if that what you can call it, building an extra extension to "The Bridges" which shops/services we really need. (1st the Ice Rick went - turned into some indoor training facility for SAFC iirc, then the pool went when they built the Aquatic Centre - cant be much left other than Snooker/Pool and 5aside courts etc?)

When I was a little 'un (that's going back 20 years or so, as I can remember the "old" bus route in and out off the bus station via Crowtree road, which is now the likes of Starbucks 02 Store, USC and Debenhams, and the footbridge upto the entrance to the Leisure Centre, and across to the flats.

Whilst has been developed since year blonk (ie: 1990) I still think the current look of the leisure centre takes away what could be a good shopping facility to match that of say, Eldon Square (but not neccesarily the Metrocentre)

dont talk to me steward

All of the lads from uni love Sunderland. They're from London, Liverpool, York, Leeds, Hull, Manchester and Ireland. In fact the lad from London thinks it's picturesque.

It seems people from the city love to grief Sunderland. But we have some fantastic areas, especially the coastline.

I'm proud of where I come from. We take for granted living on the coast.

hes right like. lovely coastline and some quality parks if you want a day out with the family walking about

Hope you punched him in the face and shouted 'ave it'

lost count how many away games ive been to that have made sunderland look f***ing mint.
and bear in mind sunderland is a town centre really, not a city centre though it will grow to that in time

Pretty much anything i want i can get in sunderland, maybe except trainers, i just get them online

Yes but you live there, if I want to have a day out I would choose Newcastle over Sunderland as it is better, most people who live in the region would have a look to Sunderland if it was better, it is losing out.

tbf i wouldnt go to newcastle if every shop in sunderland was shut down. id rather crawl to london to do me shopping

Doesn't though, I drive past Sunderland to go to Newcastle, I should be going to Sunderland but Newcastle City Centre is better.

I doubt that will ever change. Newcastle is the regional centre. What gets me is something like the Metrocentre has killed all the other shopping areas and it is as dull as ditchwater. All the old shopping areas are nearly dead because everyone goes and dresses up for a 'shopping experience' in some aircraft hangar. Not bitter me though. Not at all.

I used to go to Sunderland every weekend as a youngun, get the bus right into the old bus station have a rumage in Durham bookshop and Volume gan have some fish and chips in parkers and then go ice skating, fuck all there now apart from chain stores.

The beaches are spot on like and love a look to Roker, but the town is a waste of time.

I think the expression 'you don't know what you've got until it's gone' comes into play here.

I worked in Harlow (Essex) back in the early 90's.

Couldn't wait to come home, place was a shithole, people were retards, dressed 10 years behind Sunderland people, the lads still thought it was OK to beat their lasses up 'if they got out of line' and the lasses thought nothing of it also.

And they thought people from up norf were backward.

We have some beautiful places close to us and should be thankful for them.

And apart from anything else people actually talk to each other up here.

The young uns still go there though. They have the pictures, bowling alley etc so it's not as if there's nothing for them.

Agree fuck all has changed man really apart from the ice rink going. The pictures is better than the old one for a start, we didnt have a bowling alley before you had to come ower my side to do that.
