Holiday Insurance from Travel Agents

Booked a holiday today (look at me, pathetic....)

They offered Hol Insurance and gave a quote which seemed expensive, said we would go away and compare

When getting a quote online you have to advise of any conditions, or medication you are on, and is priced accordingly. The quote from the travel ageny didnt ask any of these questions. What cover are you getting?

{I know, I should have asked)

Seems a bit sketchy, is it?

Don't know the travel agent or insurer but I do know of cases where they've sold insurance which excludes pre-existing conditions.

You're better off getting your own policy and making sure it covers all existing conditions.

Often cheaper to get an annual policy so you don't have to worry about sorting out insurance every time you travel.

I declared high blood pressure medication on my last renewal and it went up a bit but better than not declaring and the insurance company finding a reason not to pay out.

Normally the policy from a travel agent is excluding medical conditions and you have to go online to fill out the questionnaire to pay the additional premium.

Place I used to work, the policy they used meant we had to do the above. We could get a quote before selling the policy but that didn't happen often.

Thanks, that sounds very dodgy though. No doubt the small print will cover them though. Get your own quote is the message then

Which could make it worthless really. Very dubious that

I work for a Sunderland based travel insurance company. I don't know what the rules are regarding this but it might be worth your while investigating alternative cover.

Not advocating you do just saying it might be beneficial

My employer is a broker so can provide a variety of quotes based on case specific situations. Travel insurance can be sting in the tail tbf, people should check their insurance before buying their holiday because some policies are obscene.

I don't know that rules regarding promoting companies so I don't want to disclose who I work for but it's worth your while to shop around. Even it's just to establish the quote you have received is decent

It wasnt dodgy, it just meant you were covered but not for your conditions. You can travel without paying the premium with the insurance sold to you but you are doing that knowing you aren't covered.

What annoys me about the policies is no cover if a close family member is seriously unwell, can't remember who we used now but a lot don't cover that and at the time my mam had a long term illness. Although she didnt travel, we weren't covered if we needed to come home.
I always had to read the small print on policies.

Ive always gone on line and advised of pre existing conditions (bp) and its never been an issue.

The travel agent model seems to be very misleading. You either accept the quote unaware you are not covered for pre existing, or end up paying a lot more than the original quote.

Again, small print will catch you out no doubt when push comes to shove.

That happened when I had a packaged bank account. It came with "free" travel insurance, but it didn't include my health conditions. When I rang up to get them added on, it was actually cheaper buying a stand alone policy elsewhere that covered me.

Christ, thats awful.

its pre- getting the insurance
Nonsense. That would be a condition existing prior to the insurance commencent. Pre-ordering. So what did you do before you ordered it? No, just ordering something prior to it being available.

Anything pre-existing would mean it hasn't yet existed.

It is just a lazy use of language.

Think the point is being missed here. We all know what everyone means, dont we?
