Re: Golden boy Jordan

You're comparing Alonso to Henderson? He was adored at Liverpool man!

Oh and you may have a coaching badge you sent away for by filling in your name and address in a shoot magazine but I'll bet you were a shite footballer.

I was a shite footballer. But you offer no informed opinion so you can fuck off.

They thought they could live without Alonso at Liverpool but once he went it proved he was invaluable. Thats my point. You can lose one key player and the whole way the team plays can be lost.

Heaven forbid we ever lose Henderson - fuck knows how we'd get by without his goals, assists and tackling. Losing the whole way the team played today would, indeed, be a disaster.

You f***ing wanker.

Brilliant reply.

You bloody dick.

It's easy this throwing random swear words about malarky.

he was f***ing shite today

Plenty of times to get forward in space yet he choose to hang back, at times he didnt want the ball

Re: Golden boy Jordan

not in the Telegraph. See the problem in using stats when judging a footballer? I thought we would have realised not to do this after Riveros in the World Cup. Stats are very vague.

I dont think many people shout him down either. He doesnt come close to Kilbane, Oster, Whitehead, Murphy or even Richardson for this.

Look, you can dress it up as you like.

The boy has talent and potential. He is not fulfilling it in central midfield. He would be best suited to sitting out wide and occasionally sticking a decent ball in the box and leave the key part of the game (the midfield contest) to men with the heart to do it. Thats not a criticism its just how it is (e.g. Adam Johnson is a very good wide player but wouldnt have the heart, sense of responsibility to deliver as a central midfielder).

I await the stat that shows he is the 33rd most successful farter outside the top 8 teams to back up your flawed theory

Yes in the telegraph! Although its a minor point he is joint 40th. Due to the alphabet he is not shown on the page you are looking at.

Then you go on to fully agree with all my points. He's not a Lampard or Gerrard but he has the key ingredients to his game that he could be. Wingers are more common and readily available. All round centre midfielder are harder to come by and if he has even a chance of fulfilling his potential then its worth trying him there. If it doesn't work out then we have a higher than average right winger.

My grievance is when people come on here venting at him like its his fault.

That's typical. You're telling us about passing etc. but I'll bet you couldn't do it yourself. Look mate, I was a half decent footballer, I have watched Sunderland for over 20 years and I think Henderson is seriously over-rated and I'm sick to death about hearing how good his "engine" is. Players are judged on results and end product. Henderson is a midfielder, he is expected to offer support in attack and get back to defend. Football really isn't a complicated game but people who haven't got a clue and a little knowledge make it a lot more difficult than it should be.

Look mate, I was a half decent footballer, I have watched Sunderland for over 20 years and it's easy to see he has a lot of potential and it's unfair to ask a twentysomething kid to carry a whole midfield

Of course the whole teams performance is not his fault personally. But he is a contributor. He is in central midfield. Arguably the most important and influential position in football. Unfortunately he isnt influential. He consistently performs on a neat and tidy, no frills, skills or risk basis despite the fact that he has the potential ability to be the opposite. This is where he is very, very frustrating and disappointing. As far as Im concerned, and its based on gut feeling and experience of watching players who have been hyped up as youngsters (Leadbitter and Thirlwell spring to mind), he will never be a top central midfielder. He could however be a very good right winger. Instantly.

Im not making him scapegoat but I am disappointed and underwhelmed by his progress.

He does have potential. There's no doubt about it but he's not going to be as good as some people think.

Keith mentioned Lampard and Gerrard above. They are in a different league. Plus, they seemed to be pitching in regularly with goals early on in their career. Henderson isn't offering us a great deal going forward and when our backs are against the wall he's a total lightweight.

You are going to bet that I couldn't do it myself???? Thats a risky bet after I just told you I was a shite footballer.

Jose Mourinho was a f***ing translator. You have no grounds to right off my footballing opinions.

If footballers are judged on end product why dont I see dozens of threads about how shit Malbranque and Sessegnon are?

they have both been criticised (particularly Sessegnon) tonight. Malranque has been criticised for it since he signed pretty much. The difference is that they very often take a risk

I'm sure there will be threads popping up about Sessegnon when we've had some time to evaluate what he's like. Henderson has nearly two full seasons under his belt.

I'm sure a similar thing with whats happening with Henderson now happened with Lampard when he was at West Ham...and he didn't turn out to be a bad player...maybe that's what he needs...to get away from all the moaning twats here.

Probably because what they are attempting to do with the ball is positive whereas what Henderson does is not, he takes the easy option all of the time.

Both didnt get goals till they were 21. And Lampard didnt get an assist till he was 23/4 (From wiki so may be dodgy)

Something clicks around the age of 21.

Thats what Im afraid of. Having someone his age who has been recognised by an england manager (who is biased against NE teams anyway) is a big achievement. Given time and support he could be our greatest ever player.

He is only 20 for fuck sake

Eclipsing colin todd, dave watson, jim montgomery, len shackleton, raich carter, charlie hurley, dennis tueart, kevin phillips, niall quinn etc etc?
Haway mate! If were very lucky he might be on a par with don hutchison or stefan schwarz. Thats not a dig. Id be thrilled if he makes their level as a central midfielder but greatest ever is an insult to some of our greats

Why can't you be optimistic. Its a better state of mind.

I genuinely think it would be better for the lad if he left Sunderland. He doesn't stand a chance with some of our fans.

The poxy "he only passes backwards or sideways" line is pathetic.
