henderson looks lost....

i lost interest at 'neither Jay Bothroyd or Jordan looked ready' and gave up at 'Henderson, utterly anonymous'.

Even taking off the red and white glass to call Bothroyd not ready is melodramtic as i'd expect from that shite, he only had 20 minutes and did pretty much everything Carrol did in the equivalent time, yet Carroll is 'showing promise'...

Carroll did show promise though (as did Henderson for ten minutes before full time). Carroll was aggressive, showed willing, battled hard, won a couple of knock downs. However, whilst that shows some promise as an individual, it worries me that that was the only way he could show promise. No opportunites to get the ball down and play on the deck or show any kind of promise in goal scoring positions

Make yer mind up.

I agree, it was more of a dig at the reporter than Carroll of Bothroyd.

Having said that, if i was looking for that type of player (which i'm not by the way), i'd play Crouch, possibly not as good on the deck but he scores goals at this level.

he showed promise for a short period at the end when he showed more adventure and a bit more courage and responsibility. He was, however, over ran in the midfield for 60 or 70 mins along with Barry in the first half.

The game was lost in midfield. He is correct. There were two players in the centre of the park who failed to get a grip of the game in particular. Henderson and Barry

The 3 french attacking midfielders played an absolute blinder, their movement along with Benzema dropping off was top class.

Now I don't rate Barry at all but even I wouldn't expect 2 holding midfielders to contain 4, especially the way Malouda played in the gap between Walcott, Henderson and Jagielka.

The 3 in front of Henderson and Barry were non existent and didn't pressure the ball at all, this gave the french all day to pick passes. When play did breakdown it inevitably fell to Lescott who was trying to break the guiness world record for clearances (both distance and direct to an opponent).

If the finger gets pointed at Henderson or even Gibbs for that performance then whoever points them either has an agenda or is thick as shit.

Im not pointing any fingers at Henderson or Gibbs for that defeat. But, as part of a midfield that was overran, Henderson will come into criticism for his part in that midfield. He is playing for his country. The highest level you can get in football. If hes in there (along with Gibbs and Carroll), they are going to be scrutinized

Kept the team shape , never gave ball away job done - first of many caps hopefully

And if that scrutiny comes to the conclusion that he was anonymous then I'll be saying that is bollocks.

we shall have to agree to disagree (for the first 80 minutes). All about opinions this game.

I'll also add he was one of the few england players who could control the ball within his own space and with one touch.

It was f***ing embarrassing trying to watch some of them trying get even the most basic of passes under control.

There were a load of times where he was the only player in midfield. All the rest fucked off and left him to it.

However he didnt run around like a headless chciken and obviously stuck to the position he was told to do.

He can do one mans work not four.

That's not promising on the international stage, just what we've seen fail so many times over the years. Carroll = John Fashanu with a ponytail (and white skin obviously).

I'm not sure what people were expecting from the lad when he's playing in that role.

the question is whether he is more effective than Barry - thats who I think he will displace - if anyone.

thought jordan was neat & tidy imo he was our best midfielder,as has been mentioned earlier he did the job asked of him by cappello. a 7 from me his pass to milner best of the match just a pity milner & johnson & walcott were poor as for barry ,get catts in

I was disappointed with his performance tbh but by the looks of it he was told to try and stay back because in his sunderland career ive never seen him hold back as much as today.
He seemed reluctant to get forward and always hung back , maybe capello finally realised Barry couldnt catch a cold and asked jordan to help him , i have no idea but he didnt look his usual self.

Played deep holding midfield. One of the reasons why is because he has done a very good job for the England U21s playing the same position.

Don't worry about half the comments on here, they are clueless.

Ahh right i havent seen him play for the under 21s much

Thought it was a restricted performance. I was watching him thinking 'get yourself forward', but he seemed to just sit in the middle and pick up the pieces and move it on. Similar to the U21s.

Really annoying to see how England are in the pitch though. When someone tries a decent ball and i gets cut out or doesnt come off or whatever, you'll see the intended recipitent give a thumbs up or a clap or a nob and offer some encouragement but not with this lot.

They don't encourage each other, they only seem to talk to each other when they're having a moan. They run around with their heads down. Embarrassing. Especially when you have 3 young lads making their debut, Barry and Gerrard offered no support or encouragement in any capacity on the pitch tonite.

Barry in the first half just let Jordan do all the running and pressing. The point of pressing though is that you do it as a team, there's no point otherwise as if everyone isn't pressing then there's always an out ball. Gerrard just meandered around and offered no support to Carroll or the midfield. How deep was Carroll playing considering you could have played 2 midfield players off him?

For the record I though Carroll did alright when given the right service.
