it'd cost a fair bit over there in all. Think i'll save myself for an Allsvenskan game later in the year.

Also helsingborg/malmo isnt like going to stay somewhere galm for a friendly. Malmo is very much like sunderland with it being a once huge ship building city. Theyve done alright for themselves mind. Smaller version of Hamburg.

Helsingborg is a bit more picturesque but i got bored after a day. I think it was too relaxed and there wasnt the immediate threat of a knife attack as was in malmo daily.

I know, it sucks not having that feeling of risking a knife between the shoulder-blades when out late.

too short notice for me so im out...shame cos i was looking forward to going.
The price just wasnt justifiable in the end, flights jumped up too much for me and couldnt afford it

Aaah too bad. But with the prices you mentioned I fully understand why you'll stay home.

why is malmo dodgy ? sweden never seems dodgy to me

erm, basically you ask most swedes about Malmö and they will tell you the same. They dont like it.

Its a great city. Just a bit tarnished. especially a little district called Rosengård. 90% foreign born. (this doesnt include second and third generation kids who despite being born in sweden will see themselves as foreign)

It's one of the roughest places ive been/lived. I had to work there, and I ve worked in some shit holes in Poland and Finland before. Basically it isn't typical Sweden ha.

It can be a bit iffy walking around late at night, and as it isnt a tourist hotspot like stockholm you can come across some not so friendly folk. I loved it there. But i can see why it has a rep. During my shortish time there, we had to contend with riots, stabbings, shootings amongst a lot of other things. I was in oslo for new year, came back in about 1am to see on the news a 14 year old kid had been shot and killed in malmö. wasnt surprised.

Dont want to scare anyone who is staying there
I lived there for well over a year and worked directly in the rough parts and not a lot really happened to me. Just stay in the city centre and youll be fine

Also Helsingborg is a lovel place bar a few. But on the whole its a nice little town. Im guessing those who are going will stay there anyway.

Sweden aren't, but I'd say Malmö is a bit of an exception compared to most of the country. Not that people get knifed every day or anything like that, but in general there's more bother there.

and even then its mainly two districts. city centre on the whole is good. Personal opinion would say stay in the west part of the city.

We're staying in the Hotel Ibis in Malmo, is that in a decent area? Or what area of the city is the central train station?

Hotel Ibis? Holy crap man there's shootings in and around that place every week. ... not a big fan of white text but I'll try it once ,-) ... you'll be just fine, Malmö isn't that bad at all - just a lil bit more 'action' compared to other cities in a rather quiet and peaceful country.

Was hoping there was white text and a relief to see there was! I'm sure we'll be fine like, just keep ourselves to ourselves.

I stayed there not long ago. Its ok location. Right by the malmo ff stadium. If you are there on the sunday MFF are at home to to Hacken. 15 quid for standing ticket.

Round the hotel wise. I assume you are getting the bus from the airport? if so get off at sodervarn bus stop and follow the road west til you reach the massive park, turn left. walk all the way down that road til you reach the rounabout. turn right, easiest way is to head to the stadium, then turn left and head south past the old and new grounds. you'll then come close to some training ptiches and busyish round. turn left and the hotel is right there.

area wise. id say don't venture any further from the hotel other than to head to the city centre. its nice enough though if a bit ethnically diverse. Nice big supermarket across the street too for supplies.

Central station is a bit of a trek. But plenty of buses and taxi isnt too bad. you can get a bus from pretty much anywhere (green ones) and nearly all go to sodervarn (main bus stop) and central station. Dont head to Persborg station as youll struggle to get a train to helsignborg. same with malmo south (syd) they have english ticket machines at the stations as well.

Are you doing much in malmo or not staying long enough?

Malmo airport or copenhagen sorry?

They will be perfectly fine at the Ibis ;)

f***ing Malmö soft as shite compared to Pennywell. I do agree however that some specific parts of Malmö can be a bit iffy

If they see a guy on a bicycle wearing a yellow fishermans mac. Run. he's a bit like Purple Aki, but with a gun.

Thanks for this, we'll get the train from Copenhagen airport to the station then a taxi probably, easier and probably safer! I'm sure Oscar will guide us and if it's not as bad as Pennywell then we should be ok!
Might go to the game on the Sunday though as we're they're until Monday so that's a good idea.
