Yeah, my usb came yesterday,took me 10 mins to set up.
Got Snes games running on it and also downloading games from Newsgroups and FTPing the files over to PS3s internal HDD.

Reet i'm not that clued up here, can someone explain in laymans terms what this usb thing for games is, i.e what does it do, do i get free games, will it break my ps3 how much does it cost.

Nope. Sony have released a required firmware update which prevents this from working. In order to go online, you need the update.
If you've already updated, then you can't use it now anyway.

alreet mate got my usb yesterday was uploading my games ftp on to the ps3 hard drive and its took me all day just to upload 3 games is there a quicker way

Use ethernet cables, 10gb in approx 30 mins.
I done it wireless and took me about 1 hour for approx 4 gb
