So my son uses my old original PS4 which keeps failing to start and taking off with its huge fans going. So I bought a new one for his Birthday.

A family member has bought him a PS Plus Account. My question is this, he just uses a profile under my account. I’m transferring all the data to the new PS4 from the old one now but will need to activate the new PS Plus account on this new machine and make his profile the primary user.

He plays rocket league but can’t use online as needs a PS Plus account. If it’s alresdy been downloaded via my account will he have to buy it again?

He should be able to play it on his new account once PS plus is activated but his progress will have to start from zero. I think. Your post is confusing tbh.

You’d need to make your profile the primary PS4 user or rocket league won’t work on his account. This is the same for any games that you have purchased or downloaded under your profile. As long as you are the primary profile on the PS4 any games downloaded under your user name will work for any other user on that PS4. He will lose all his online progress though as that is tied to your profile and he is starting a new online profile.

Only just noticed this thread so you might have resolved this but why not just swap the drive from the old ps4 into the new one?

It's about the ID, not the data on the machine. You can do a data transfer easily enough.
