Hayden Hackney

If we can get him on a decent fee we should go for it but fuck overpaying when there's better value abroad. Give them Browne and a bit cash

I'm not convinced he's a Premier League quality player myself. I mean I'm sure several hundreds of scouts and data analysts who are much more qualified than I am may disagree but I'd be wary of spending £40+50M+ on him. Could see him being a hit in a slower paced league abroad but for me, just from what I've seen, he'd struggle with the pace of the PL.

Jobe Bellingham - £33m+
Adam Wharton - £18M+
Alex Scott - £25m

Is Hackney better than them at similar stages of their development? Not for me.
No one will be doing that regardless.

If he leaves it will be for £15m-£20m imo maximum. He's never kicked a ball in the premier league and is almost 24 and i think only has a year left

How good is he ? Watching premier league football this season for the first time in years, it’s glaringly obvious just how much of a step up it is in terms of pace and physicality.

It’s certainly not impossible for players to step up and thrive as we’ve seen with the likes of Ballard but plenty more have struggled.
100% agree with this

Watching Reinildo mark Amad out of the game, how difficult he was to beat in a tackle and how amazingly fast his recovery runs were the gap is stark to even a very good Championship level full back

While the new players we have recruited this season are on the whole marginally more skillful and experienced at a higher level, the most obvious difference is in power, speed and endurance

Tbf Hume has a lot of the necessary physical attributes, Ballard has the stength and Mayenda has the speed… but whether Hackney would cope is open to debate

He’s a good player though

spot on

Been to a few Boro games when we aren't at home (Brother-in-law gets hospitality tickets)

He is certainly the standout player in the division, but whether that means he can step up is another thing. Seen it previously with Jack Clarke, Gus Hamer, etc Plenty of players who are excellent at that level but can't take the game to the next level.

Dont think we will go for him, he has a different profile to our midfielders, not aggressive enough out of possession, and not as creative further forward like ELF. Personally I think he will succeed in the prem, he plays the game in a similar manner to Wharton at Palace. Could see him going there if a big club goes for Wharton.

The middle of the park in the PL is unforgiving, and this lad like to take a lot touches on the ball. In my opinion, he'd get his pocket picked most weeks, and follow it up with a rash foul, and a card. He'd end up out on loan by January due to the lack of trust.

Good Championship level player, and maybe a decent buy for one of the clubs going up with an eye on coming straight back down.

You mean the way Hume and Ballard have??

5 goals & 6 assists.

The ‘talent spotters’ voting him the best player this season need their qualifications reviewed.
Some on here were saying the same when Alex Scott won the player of the year over Clarke. Look how the two players went on to perform in the PL. Hackney plays in a similar position to Scott with similar stats even if he isn't quite as good.

I like Hackney and think he'd be at least decent in the PL, how good is hard to say but I think he'd be a good signing for us, for the right price anyway.

Exactly. Some can do it. And whilst Ballard was excellent in our promotion season. He wasn't one you looked at and thought he was nailed on to be a Quality Premier league defender. Hume I was more confident with.

The Championship team of the season last season, back 4, was Burrows, Esteve, Egan-Riley and Bogle. Ballard and Hume have smashed all 4 of those out the park. My point is championship performance, whilst an indicator, it isnt an exact science about who will be better in the premier league.

I do think it is ever so slightly easier for defensive minded players to step up than offensive creative ones mind

I can't see him coming here, akin to a mag fan joining us, I think he's Boro at heart and probably massively dislikes us and doesn't want to ruin his legacy there.

He'll probably end up at a newly promoted club or a lower to mid-table Prem side.
Skunks are ‘apparently’ sniffing around him.
