Haway then...60m do we buy if we go up.

John Ruddy - Free
Dion Sanderson - £2m
Jordan Jones - £600k.
Ashley Fletcher - Free

Would be my starting point.
Nixon put up an article (completely devoid of quotes) claiming there would be a "budget" of £60m next season. Given everything that KLD has repeatedly talked about sustainability and a data-driven approach, I'm reckoning that's utter bullshit.
It wouldn't shock me if it's close. You simply cannot come back down, and if the aim is to stabalise then investing a lot now in a core of young lads (a lot of the current group aren't good enough) it might be a shrewd idea.

Disgustingly sensible options.

Cherno Samba for me.

Ruddy is exactly the kind of player we won't be signing. Old and no resale value. We'll be signing young players who can develop and be sold for a profit if necessary. Given FFP rules, we won't be spending £60m on total costs - transfers, wages, overheads, the lot. Our income, even if promoted, will be around £30m max, and owners can only contribute £8m/season for FFP.

If we are doing this properly, then even Sanderson and Jones coming in will only happen if their data backs up the transfers. Them doing well this season should be irrelevant.

Sanderson, Jones, Dembele, Fraser, Graham(Gillingham), prem loans , the lad up top for Barnsley who is on loan from the ASL, Callum Wilson (Mags won't be able to afford to keep him), Yates (Blackpool), Henderson comes home, Areola (Fulham keeper), Right wing chap at Brentford,

I think plan and practice aren't always the same roads. Sunderland can't bus in an entirely new squad, some consistency will be needed. They're both under 28 so can give you 3-4 years. As for Ruddy. I think it would be lovely to have this vibrant young squad, but there's going to be a need for some experience in there to steady things a bit.

I know this might be a red rag to a bull, but when Rafa Benitez built our Championship squad he made sure to get Daryl Murphy in as someone to top up the goals and be a wise head.

Jayden Stockley, John Lundstram (out of contract), Danny Rose (same), Jordan Jones all for £10m total. The rest on perhaps on an old head (Welbeck £7m) and young gun perhaps say Ty Mitchell (Palace defender quick £6m) and then loans for premier league players who come up for hire.
Rose-finished. Too many personal issues. Welbeck-exactly the type of player we should avoid at all costs. The type of player old SAFC would spunk what little money we had on. Move on man.

Agreed apart from I think we only need one CB. Wright and Willis are easily championship quality, then if we signed Sanderson I think we have enough cover, gotta think Flanno and Xemajli still in the squad. Instead of the cover CB I'd have 2 strikers brought in. A pacey forward or fox in the box and someone similar to cover as well, we already have two big target men good in the air, O'Brien isn't championship level.

If both Willis and wright can stay fit I'd agree.

Sanderson sign. I’d like to see him and Willis together.

Jones sign. Him and Hume could become our next Alan Johnston and Micky Gray.

A decent, fast right winger and a desperately needed right back.

We need a fast, powerful, goal scorer as a matter of priority.

Offer McGeady another year. His legs are still there and there’s still life in the old dog yet.

O’Nein a 4/5 year contract

A decent keeper. I’d take J Mc back if he is available.

Then I expect our data approach to produce a boat load of good solid bargains to fill the squad out.

Welbeck would absolutely tear up the championship - if he could stay fit but that’s a big if.

Barnsley could do a job on a short term deal and would add a bit of character, know how and nastiness which we’ll need next season.

and as mentioned, Waghorn is a very good player at championship level and I think he’d be highly motivated to leave a goal scoring leagacy at safc. Surely got a couple of good seasons in him

Yep. There needs to be some experience and know how.

What resale value did Dwight Yorke have? Graham Kavanagh? Stan Varga? It's invaluable in the dressing room.

I think there's probably better keepers about at Championship level than Jon McLaughlin.

Four to five years for Luke O'Nien is absolute madness. I get that people like that lad but ha'way man.

If we could sign Sanderson, I'd want a good, solid, Championship brick shithouse next to him.
Anyway, this far to premature. We're nowhere near up yet.

Maybe we should talk about who we should sign to get us out of this shithole league once and for all.

I'd possibly look at that Beevers and Dembele from the other day. Maybe Thompson as well for right back.

can one really sign a young keeper..with re sale value-at the hampo level? its very hard to identify young keepers of the future..and high risk to make them first choice..

beevers is a strange one..at the start of his career he was lauded as a likely top flight star..but it never happened and he has drifted downwards since
