Having to play a full back centre forward

I was saying this when we were winning games as you know because you were sticking up for Speakman.

We have a really talented team and it is soul destroying watching them struggle to break down teams without a focal point.

Two points made by the comnentators.
We were toothless.
The wingers are not confident of c rossing the ball quickly now.

I said at the end of January it would derail our promotion push and it has

I'm just saying promotion isn't guaranteed, even with a fit Stewart or any other striker.

Chances of going up are very slim so it's hard to get as upset as you are. If we went into this league as favorites, I'd feel differently.

It's not baffling at all though is it?

Literally everyone would have taken a striker.

The issue is whenever this boring debate comes up, people just assume that we'll be signing someone class, and it wouldn't be the second coming of Will Grigg.

If you trust your process, and all signs point to the fact that we should, then you don't deviate from it or panic buy someone we don't think will contribute.

It's an utterly pointless debate because any time we win it doesn't get mentioned, and the only way for someone not to turn around and go "we should have just signed a striker man fuck sake any striker", would be if we made the playoffs. But even then you'd still probably get some people whinging that we would have been in the automatics if we signed a striker.

The debate completely ignores any semblance of nuance because it never factors in that the striker we signed could have been shite, might not have fit in to the system, our league form tanks anyway trying to incorporate him and we're also lumped with his wages for 3 years, which impacts on next season's budgets and so on.

Why does it always have to be a “Will Grigg” type signing?

We signed Ross Stewart in January too, why can’t the recruitment team do their job and sign a decent striker? They’ve had plenty of time (and a couple of month of watching the consequences) to find and sign one.

They deservedly get praise for the likes of Hume, Ballard, Ba, Michut, Alese etc. so they deservedly get stuck for our current striker situation, a situation that many saw in August but were laughed at.

I agree with you the chances of going up are slim but they wouldn''t have been if we had purchased a striker capable of putting the chances away our outstanding creative midfielders create.

Tony's words and I could not agree more

Tony Mowbray says Sunderland's lack of strikers left him feeling he was sending his team into battle 'without the tools to win' as they were beaten at Coventry City.
I believe the answer to this is Grigg, boring etc

TM has a free pass for me. He hasn't been given the players he needs. I honestly think if he had been backed the play offs were guaranteed

If you remember I was complaining about this since January and when people like you were defending Speakman I told you that the mood would change when his stupid decision cost us points and it looks like I was correct.

My hope is that Mowbray is not criticised because it is not his fault the owner is penny pinching and leaving us massively short.

or and Johnson Clarke Harris scored another two today

Someone needs to tell him he isn’t allowed to mention it as there’s nothing that can be done now.

Are you taking the piss?
Look at the players we've signed.
Then again we could go back to signing shite!
I'm talking sense. I've stated time and again some of our recruitment has been great. However no strikers in over a 2 year period. Ha'way even the most positive supporter can see the monumental cock up we've made. Its not a choice of no strikers or shit ones. Although we've loaned someone not fit for purpose so they're not even able to have a 100% record of loan strikers any longer.

It is poor…

1. Stewart was likely to leave
2. Simms had a clause to say that he could return which he did
3. There was a chance Stewart would get injured
4. There was clearly nobody in the academy ready
5. We were on a roll and had a chance to challenge the play offs

so my risk analysis spider senses are off the scale if I am in recruitment. Any 2 (for me it would be 1) of the above factors should have seen us with another striker. Especially given the recruitment ethos of getting promising young players in.

it is negligence in the extreme

Who was available?
A 6.5 ft broom stick with a wig would score goals in this team. Such a shame we didn’t get a big forward in that last window. Our season is over, happy with our season if we stay up but with the skill and momentum we had I think we could have pushed for promotion. Would have been Much better than that dirty bunch of shit we played today if had we had a lump up front. Oh well season over on to the next one.
