The one who isn't a striker?Oops You've forgotten again, we did get backup in, remember that loan striker you forgot about upthread
Bang on1 striker was never enough, just like 2 wasn’t enough from August - December.
Simms was recalled before the window even opened. We already needed a striker to go with Stewart/Simms. They had all month to sort it, and although I do not doubt that they tried, they ultimately failed
Recruitment has generally been good but in terms of recruiting a striker it’s woeful.
I’m sure speakmen tried but given his record so far the owners pethaps should have backed him more. We should have had a plan b knowing how weak we are in this area.
Whoever’s fault it is we are woefully short up front and it’s costing us.
I think that’s what a lot of people do think. They’ve already been called useless plenty on this threadRoss Stuart got injured on Saturday afternoon and the window shut when, Tuesday night? They've already made it public they tried several avenues to get someone in but unfortunately couldn't get a deal over the line, you'd think they deliberately twiddled their thumbs through to sunset.
I think you'll be in the minority IMO..I'll certainly give him a near free pass when get had 3 months with no striker and then another half a season without one.
Probably but he's done a good job. Hands are tied nowI think you'll be in the minority IMO..
A replacement should have been the priority prior to him getting injured given how crucial he is to us.
The one who isn't a striker?
Aye he's clearly a 10 and every Leeds fan I've seen has said he isn't a striker. Mental situation.it should have been more than a priority - pretty much the only focus when both stewart and simms were injured together early season. they should have been working towards a deal ready for january 1. simms recall should have amped it up even higher
Gelhardt? Mowbrays comments about teaching him where to be and when to get in the box was concerning like.
Did you blush?
How embarrassed were you?Did you think 'what a great sub, this'll help us get back in the game?'
I don’t need to answer, it’s already been answered by othersOops You've forgotten again, we did get backup in, remember that loan striker you forgot about upthread
Yes agree. I think a lot are seeing things black an white on this (never good colours).we wont likely ever know the truth, but i really cant imagine speakman wasn't keen to spend funds that were available - and this is what is most disappointing. given the season we're having, how the lads are playing, the position in the table and optimism amongst the fans i really think it was the right time to invest in a few quality signings - all we really needed was a striker to come in and be anywhere near as good a signing as clarke, roberts, batth, ba, michut etc etc have been so far.
As you say, recruitment has been top notch. ekwah looks a great buy already, just needed one extra body up top
I don’t think he can’t last 90 minutes, I think we’re scared of him getting too tired or injured. Either way it’s not very goodSo do i but the lad can't last 90 minutes at the minute. Taking off our only striker at 70 minutes when we're 0-1 down is beyond embarrassing like

We can congratulate the club in some excellent recruitment but recognise we have been left woefully short up top.
As said just frustrating as rest of team is getting there.
Hopefully rectified in the summer
I am not embarrassed, it's you who is. Just wondering what makes it embarrassing for you?about the same as you should be for the way you're carrying on

But we haven't got a striker to put on the bench so what's the point of constantly go on about it. I'm more interested in finding out a way of making it work with the players we have available..you're going on like a nob mate. is it not ok for sunderland fans to want a striker on the bench like? too much to ask i guess.

The smb could've rustled up a team and beaten QPR. I work with a few of em and they were surprised we only got three. They sacked their manager o few days later. beating QPR under critchley is irrelevant.
Personally I think gelhardt is a No' 10 so won't stand up against two centre backs, we either have to adapt and play him with a make shift No' 9 (take ya pick between 09 or Alese) or we play a 433 and try and flood the box. Either way we have to change our system to make it work..Can I also mention not having a sitting DM makes us open to counter attack like we saw yesterday. If we can get those two things sorted we just might have a decent end of season..reasonably discussion can't be had either way, everyone has to make snidey little comments instead of just agreeing we all want whats best for the club and we've been left disappointingly short.
doesn't really seem like there is a way of making it work with the players we have, nobody is really suited to playing up top and we've not looked great since gelhardt has come in if we're being honest.
