Have we got a rat problem?

I used to be a keen rat hunter with terrier, air rifles etc and spent many years trapping with fenn traps, i read about the black rat population in one of db plummers books.
I met plummer a few times, the last time was just before his death from cancer, as a kid I went down to Walsall to attend a lecture he did on rats with David hancock, I was an odd kid 😂

Ha ha, so was i, was a bit of a hero of mine. Still got most of his books but it was sad to see his reputation trashed by some people after his death.

He was an eccentric, also wrote under the pen-name Michael Shaw, hancock packed in breeding lurchers early this year? There's a rat-pack in sunderland, Ryhope ratters?

In London you are never more than 6 foot from a rat...a latte...a beard...some skinny jeans...some cereal...a 7 pound pint...a rip off...a champagne socialist...

Not up to speed now mate on the hunting scene but still read the odd article and enjoy watching youtube vids now and again. Have seen several videos of the ryhope ratters on yt

As a young lad I must have covered every inch of Barnes Park and I never found a single rat.

I knew all the paths through the trees, the places where you shouldn't go and every bike jump and rope swing in the place.

Something must be causing it all it was never like this!

What did you do with them after you caught them?
My german sheppard has caught a couple of the fuckers, she stuns them drops them at my feet and I finished them of with a shovel
When she dropped one at my missus feet she screamed and ran locked herself in the bathroom till I got home, by which time the rat had recovered and run off.
I just hoy the dead ones in the bin
Norwegicus, rattus has only a few localised spots in the UK I believe?
More commonly known as the Noregian Wood Rat, thats what's in the Echo photos

Was in Roker Park with the kids last week, saw a few wandering around near the green festering pit formerly known as a waterfall.
