I'd play Ballance at 5. Its the position he has scored tons of runs this season
Selectors have just fucked it up. Ballance came into the summer with tons of question marks about his technique at international cricket and the selectors had this opportunity to get him in at 5 for the summer and see how he goes. all batting at 3 has done is reinforce that concerns everyone already had. I wouldn't expect great things from him but I can't really suggest anyone at 5 that I feel would do better - Bairstow aside but then we are looking to solve problems elsewhere.
Its hard to put into words how bad the selectors have been over the last 2 years.
Strauss has done a lot of good, especially with the white ball stuff, but selection falls under his remit, and its royally been fucked.
On that cricket writers TV a few weeks ago one of them said he knows a particular selector has pushed Stoneman at every selection meeting for about a year but gets nowhere. So who picks the team?
And one of the reasons given for Stoneman not being selected is that Bayliss hasn't seen him play. Its bizarre.
Does he not have, people watching county cricket ?
Well yes there are other selectors watching county cricket but as DaveAngel says some have been banging the drum for Stoneman but to no avail and one of the reasons given was that Bayliss hadn't seen anything of him himself.
Interesting, i am surprised at that given the media these days, surely he could of watched a DVD or something.
Every ball is recorded
He scored a 100 in the one day final at Lords, yet Bayliss still didn't bloody see that!
it seems as if the man, is kind of like every england football manager, since forever, as in he has his favourites or has a list of players that fit his ideas and sticks with them, however this maybe wrong as we don't yet know who is lined up for the west indies and what changes as going to be made
Nasser wants Gubbins called up, despite being totally out of form. I don't get it.
opinions, everyone has one, do we know when the west indies line up is likely to be made known ?
It is why I love cricket to be fair, talk for hours in the pub about selection.
Friday I believe.
Been a fan since 2005, myself i am always open about how it happened and why, but it started with that summers ashes and has stuck with me ever since
Hopefully by friday we will see what the team is and maybe a few tweaks not a major change because i don't think a side that has just won 3-1 needs that.. but maybe changes at 2 and 5 batsmen and maybe one or two fresh bowlers
Yep new opener and number 5
I'd keep the main bowlers in for the pink ball test, as its the only chance they will get before the one in Australia.
So for shits and giggles let's pick the Ashes squad, call it 17 players?
Certainties
Cook
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Broad
Anderson
Woakes
Probable
Westley
TRJ
Wood
Ballance (he will go, even tho he shouldn't)
So that leaves 4
Hameed
Hales (as he can open?)
Rashid or Crane or Dawson?
Finn
