I like him but not sure he's test match class, particularly as an opener. Possibly worth a go given lack of alternatives at 5 at the moment.

Find it odd that James Hildreth has never been mentioned over the years, despite being a natural middle order player, age probably would go against him now though.

Yeah I think there is no doubt Hildreth best years have past now mind.

So for shits and giggles let's pick the Ashes squad, call it 17 players?

Certainties
Cook
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Broad
Anderson
Woakes

Probable
Westley
TRJ
Wood
Ballance (he will go, even tho he shouldn't)

So that leaves 4
Hameed
Hales (as he can open?)
Rashid or Crane or Dawson?
Finn

Lot of the journos think Ben Foakes could be back up to Bairstow

Every ball is recorded

He scored a 100 in the one day final at Lords, yet Bayliss still didn't bloody see that!
That is criminal, mind.

You'd at least expect the England coach to watch the domestic One Day final, especially between two sides with plenty of England-qualified players.

For Baylis not to have seen one of the best openers in county cricket for the last few years is bordering on criminal.

Surely he should be putting himself out and watching or at the very least getting someone out there to watch him, or even getting DVDs to watch himself.

Sounds like a right lazy wanker to me.
