Hales and Stokes

I think it is.

If someone is of the mindset of wanting to glass you then you need to end it

Why does the video start there.

It's The Sun

I'd put money on there being more provocation

If someone was trying to glass my mate, too right I'd want to make sure he was in a position where he couldn't do it again
I understand that. But the level of force should reflect the situation. The video suggests he went overboard

IF what Morgan says is true then well done Ben Stokes. Just watched the video, question I want to know is why someone is waving a bottle about outside towards the group Stokes was stood with. My immediate thoughts are Stokes/his group were provoked

BREAKING: I'm hearing that Ben Stokes intervened to help two gay guys who were being abused by yobs, one of whom was armed with a bottle.

2/ Stokes has told friends he was incensed by the homophobic taunts, then saw the bottle being raised & decided to defend himself.

3) Stokes obviously regrets what happened but apparently his view is: 'They started it, I finished it. I was protecting those guys.'

4/ Police are aware of Stokes' version of events & are now trying to find the two gay men, to corroborate what he's said.

5/ Stokes has told friends: 'The guy had a bottle in his hand & was threatening us, was I supposed to wait until he smashed it in my face?'

People can obviously make their own minds up about the Stokes video, but his defence certainly raises new questions.

Of course they were provoked. You can see it. But it’s whether his reaction was proportionate

The video evidence that we have seen (albeit a grainy minute or so) suggests it was not. He becomes the aggressor

Homophobic behaviour, albeit abhorrent, does not give anyone carte blanche to assault someone

You seem desperate to absolve him of any blame

It does when they are trying to glass someone

It's not assault it's self defense, got on him

You can start out acting in self defence, but then carry things on too far.

Looking at the start of that video, a reasonable argument could be made for self defence.

The longer it goes on, the weaker that argument becomes. At the end the other two are trying to back away, holding their arms out, saying they've had enough. Stokes still keeps going after them, so it would be far more difficult to argue he was still acting in self defence at that point.

It shouldn't make any difference, but if he can point to any sort of homophobic behaviour from the other two it will no doubt help his case.

No chance, self defence maybe for the first 30 seconds. The last 30 are damming in the extreme. I would astounded if he is not banned by the ECB.

Be beyond stupid to ban him and the wrong decision

Ben will be fine, he will just go and earn 10 million in the IPL instead
