Gyan

Aye, god forbid we should start liking a player too early.

Like many did with Varga and McShane;)

I certainly don't expect Gyan to keep his current goal scoring form up given his career record, but if he can average around 1 in 3 and show the same level of commitment and all round play that he has done so far here I'll be very happy.

I love the way people on here have decided he's a great finisher after 4 starts, people get slaughtered (and rightly so) for claiming someone is shit after 4 starts as they haven't given him a chance. His record over the years suggests he's not as good at scoring as his early form for us has been but we can't really make a proper judgement on him yet. Just as I would expect people to give him time if he'd been poor to prove how good he is then the same can be said about someone who starts like a house on fire

Were you one of those who wrote him off when he was sitting on the bench?

I bet you were.

Check my posts if you like, I never write anyone off I haven't seen, much like I don't get carried away by 3 or 4 good performances. FFS people on here are claiming he's a better finisher than Bent:lol::lol::lol::lol:

he appears to be working on striking the ball across the keeper from the right (keepers left) which is where he doesn't look as comfortable (not natural like Bent) - looks more comfortable opening up (like Chelsea) his body and shooting.

On current form, he is.

What else is there to judge him by?

Their respective records over the past 4 or 5 years maybe?

Gyan doesn't have a record in the Prem, and Bent doesn't have a record at International level. It's not possible to compare.

Bent is a magnificent finisher, but on recent form we've all seen seen enough to conclude that Gyan is at least as good - arguably better.

Varga started game 1 excellently - beating Arsenal single handed - then went about game 2 the same until he was cynically sliced down and seriously injured. As sadly so often he was just never the same after returning. Its not a good example.

personally I don't give flying f&ck what any signing was doings in 2006 and 2007. We've seen very little of Gyan in a Sunderland shirt but its extremely promising. Pretending that nothing else at all is relevant though such as his WC performances is arrogant on a Mag-like scale. It will now be a huge surprise if Bruce has squandered £13M here - beyond that who knows just how good he will or wont be.

anything falling lose in the box with a split second to react you expect Bent will be there to tuck it away, he's excellent when he doesnt really have time to think it's just instinct where the net is, have never really fancied him in like a 1 v 1 situation where he's going to have to think about it tho

Gyan from what we've seen tho is cool as fuck in front of goal, picks his spot

Can you seriously not see the stupidity in someone claiming Gyan is a better finisher after 4 starts than someone who has averaged 1 in 2 scoring around 80 goals in our top flight? It's f***ing madness to claim he is a btter finisher in that amount of time. Especially seeing as he wasn't averaging the same amount in a supposedly poorer league.
Amir Zaki came to this country and was superb for 15-20 games, he wasn't then, wasn't before and never will be a better goalscorer than Bent. Gyan has a huge amount to prove before anyone can claim any differently.

This is despite the fact last season everyone was crowing about how good he is at one on ones and how he is so much better at them than Phillips was:lol:

What the hell are you talking about, all I did was point out that claiming he is a better finisher than Bent after 4 starts is ridiculous. Bent has proven time and time again he is one the very best in this league. I'm not saying Gyan is shit, or won't turn out to be very good, or indeed won't be better than Bent. I'm saying that claiming he is better than Bent already is, quite frankly, f***ing ridiculous.

tbf people are saying the Gyan could be a better finisher than Bent, not that he is.

And Gyan is off the back of a great World Cup. It's not as if he has appeared out of nowhere.

Every time I read an article about this man I love him a little bit more, we've signed not only a brilliant footballer but a brilliant character

How does 'Asamoah McCabe' sound? I wasn't thinking of proposing but I think I might have a name for my first born!
