Gyan ''Struggling To Adapt And Missing His Family''....

Throwaway comment in an article about general transfer policy I think. Can't remember exactly where it was.
So possibly you made it up???
Do you not believe it unlikely that Bruce, after asking Niall and Ellis if we can buy Gyan, and agreeing that Jones can go to help pay towards him, would then turn around and say, ''fellahs yer fucked up, you paid far too much and I'm not happy???

You must have watched Conspiracy Theory last week, canny film but I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I recognise it is tenuous at best but I'm just getting a similar vibe to the one I had when Bruce kept talking about Jones last January (not nearly as overt, mind)

Getting the same vibe unfortunately.

He's praised him after a game or two as well.

Mind, he has been so central to our success this year-no coincidence whatsoever that we began to pick up points, especially after the derby debacle, when Gyan was deemed ready to start matches, he is unquestionably a match winner-that he should be getting highly spoken of by his manager, a lot more than Bent this season at least.

He looks happy mind, and he doesn't look the type to hide his emotions-see traipsing off v Blackpool, and of course the penalty miss in the World Cup, so I'm taking that as a good sign.

I know if I was him I'd be a little pissed off at Bruce's manner of handling things regarding him though, more than a little clumsy and unfair.

Really hope it's just a bit of teething though because he is on the verge of becoming an exceptional player, I'd hate for someone to throw their toys out the pram and jeopardise us benefiting from his quality.

It seems that way

Can you imagine we'd have payed 13 if we hadn't sold Jones? Of course, we couldn't afford it, but the Jones sales surely inflated the price

He did say something along those lines. I think he was complaining about having to match Fenerbahces inflated bid for Gyan. Something like that, don't quite remember.

So because we 'may' have paid too much Bruce is unhappy and is directing his displeasure in subliminal comments against Gyan.
It all makes sense now. What a fool I was for not seeing it.

Spot on mate. This place is like a conspiracy theorists forum at times.

Thing is, Bruce has come out with ambigious statements when he's made a judgment about a player previously.

"Unplayable on his day but the challenge is to get that from him consistently." - He'd clearly decided that Jones can go next window if we get a decent offer.

"He's a very good defender but struggling with the physicality against the likes of Blackburn and Stoke." - Da Silva is way down the pecking order and we will try to sell him the next transfer window.

"Gyan's struggling to adapt and missing his family." - Could it mean that Bruce isn't completely happy with how Gyan's played so far for some reason, and has decided he's 3rd choice behind Bent and Welbeck for now? It's firmly within the realm of possibility. It could also just be a direct reference to the silly home trip situation, but the fact is that Gyan has spent a lot of time on the bench.

There's a key difference between the first two statements and the one referring to Gyan.

I think people are looking into it a bit deep.

He's only just got his foot through the door of a new club in a foreign country ffs.

Are people expecting him to start every game after he's had a couple of niggles on his thigh. I dont understand what the problem is.

Think the main reason to staunch any panic is the whole financial situation.

Bruce smashed our transfer record, on a relatively unknown quantity, using money from Ellis Short, the Club's owner, who has sunk considerable levels of his own money as investment into the club.

I just don't think he has the option of saying "He cost 13 million, but he misses his family so it hasn't worked out, never mind", there's just too much at stake, for Bruce's career, reputation, pride and position at the club.

Yes, but the situation is similar in that Bruce seems to favour other players over the subject. Could be a very temporary thing, but it wasn't with Jones and Da Silva. Considering the limited public praise he's had for Gyan, it is a bit strange to come out with a statement like that. You would expect something like: "Gyan has been fantastic this season but he's still struggling a bit to adapt to life in a new country and is missing his family etc not used to no winter break etc had a couple of injuries etc."

Instead we just hear that he's struggling to adapt, and the next game he's benched. Again. He's been our most efficient striker, yet he's 3rd choice. You could see how Gyan's patience is tested in this situation. Hopefully he's the kind of person that reacts well to it, and maybe Bruce knows that and has it completely under control. It's just a minor worry for now.

Also, just thought, Bruce is hardly a cavalier when it comes to tactics, so his insistence to play three strikers is encouraging, he would have no qualms in just playing Bent and Welbeck if he didn't want Gyan in there. Would be a ready made excuse in fact.

On the other hand, the comments were made after the Blackpool game and it's possible that Bruce had decided that he won't be bothering with three up front anymore this season, and that the comments about Gyan were made specifically because he had decided that Bent and Welbeck would be the first choice for now.

Think you're right actually. Maybe he was lying in case Customs and Excise were listening. Or maybe London is too far away. Given he lived in France before and not Ghana if his family are in Ghana then playing here woulnd't have made a difference in terms of missing them anyway one would have thought.

There have been a few things that have set my Spidey senses tingling RE Bruce and Gyan. The fact that he is continually rated as a doubt then keeps popping up on the bench worries me - particularly when he makes it on when there isn't always need (see Blackburn). Bruce drawing attention to Gyans misses against Blackpool (when I don't believe there was a similar comment made about the equally profligate Bent). A recent comment regarding how Bruce believes SAFC may have overpaid for Gyan.

Of course it all may add up to completely nothing. However, Bruces public utterances regarding Gyan have never been the sort of unequivocal praise that he reserves for Bent or Henderson. The fact that he hadn't been training with Bent as a pair is ridiculous. I hope that it is all rampant paranoia on my part, mind.

I'm not one for a conspiracy theory. Usually, in football, things are much more black and white. However, i do feel theres something underlying here. but its most likley nothing. hes certainly putting a shift in when hes on the pitch. can't argue with that.

Also, you refer to Bent and Henderson. Every player needs motivating differently and good managers will use diff techniques for diff players. perhaps those 2 need confidence boosts when they are underperforming and bruce feels the need to be a bit harsher on Gyan ??? Who knows really, probably none of us.
