tbf i think we did underacheive like. one week we were at least fighting for 8th with a sly eye on 7th and hoping for the fa cup semi final. we gave up really in the last few weeks, we should have finished higher.
the way safc 2012 is going you would think it was some disaster though, not just a couple of points from top 10

I agree on both counts mate.

i know thats what your saying, but evidence doesnt back this up. only gyan has taken mega bucks to play in the desert (that i know of). the rest want to be in the big leagues and stay there on their smaller mega buck deals

I am not just talking specifically about that club and that league i am talking more generically about footballers, the vast majority of them would always take the improved pay deal. That is what Gyan did. Its also a safe bet that if the club Gyan is currently playing for did start to ask other players from our league over there they would probs agree to go.

Look at Etto (sp) for example, one of the biggest names in the game now plying his trade for some Russian club nobody had heard of two years ago, they threw ridiculous cash at him and he went

Gyan was a f***ing good signing like, which makes me hate the twat more the more I think about it

He was a signing on-par or not far off Suarez as far as reputation and arguably ability, some of his goals were class, he would have been a lot better if he showed half the competitiveness of Suarez like

We've took a very big step back from 18 month ago when we had Bent and Gyan leading the line, makes me sick

most wouldnt.
aye most players will take the bigger pay day, if its from a club in a decent league, most would rather be in the big leagues than footballs backwaters jsut cos they offer more money

Haway man, what's your definition of badly under-achieved if that isn't it???

I said we should be comfortably top 10 and pushing for top 8, i used swansea as an example of how much we've really moved on. We've been trying for years to be a "stable mid table team" yet they come up spend pennies and finish above us.

Comfortably top 10, pushing top 8. Last 5 year we've spent nearly 150 million quid on players, can see why you're happy with 13 th place finishes

our net spend on players is now where near that since we came up and it's pointless focusing on how much you spend if you ignore that we are getting good money back in for selling our better players.

In this same period we've had two different sets of owners and at least 4 managers.

As soon as you take the top 4 and chelsea out of it the rest of the teams are much of a muchness.

I'm over the moon with finishing anywhere higher than 4th off bottom because we were down in November.

Next year I'll be happy with anywhere between 7th and 13th with a couple of good cup runs hoyed in and no danger of relegation.

Why, do Liverpool, Everton, Fulham, Newcastle not spend money either and try and kick on.

We might get in to the top 10 for the next 10 years but I'll wager it won't be comfortable.

Suppose when they've done it for 5-6 years they can be a fair comparison then.

Why can't we count player sales in the equation by the way?

we are a safe mid table team. that means one season we could easily finish 8th/9th for example and the next year finish 13th but just a couple of points less. below say the top 7/8 its really a much of nothing

Well we will find out in the next few years more about this in my opinion, alot of these "backwater" clubs seem to have alot of cash, lets see how many players do what Gyan did, i think you will be surprised

Since 2007 weve spent about 150 million, recovering about 77 million according to this link http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/sunderland-transfers.html So much for the net spend not being much. Just like saying, if we sell sess for 20 million and buy 4 craig gardners it doesnt matter cos theres no net spend, still doesnt mean we're any good does it?

probably a few and a few more who are coming to the end of their careers like drogba. not 95%, vast majority will take premiership or la liga etc everytime

I personally think/hope we will receive a recording breaking transfer fee for us

you think hes going for more then hendo or bent? ne way

Whilst its took swansea a few year to climb 3 leagues and finish comfortably mid table in the prem, what ever we people try to dress it up we are badly underachieving

With the money we've spent? comfortably top 10, maybe pushing 8th

Some people are never happy.

Where do you think Swansea will be next season, do you see them as an established prem side?

Look like Hull to me

We have, but what difference does it make? Im not going on about how much we've made, im going on about how much we've spent on transfers and still arent very good.
