Shame we couldnt have got that type of squad out together over the last two seasons. Only 1 loan player amongst them as well. We have to do more to keep a hold of our better players if we want to consistently be top eight pushing for more.

Gordon, Brown, Mensah, Clattermole - injured loads of the time.

Zenden, Malbranque - could last one half between them.

Cana - overrated liability.

Bent, Gyan - $$$$.

IMHO like.

Nee Colback, like? Not even on the bench?

Malbranque and Mensah wouldn't have got anywhere near the team based upon their performances during their final year here, either.

The team we had at the start of January looked about this good on paper and remember how f***ing dreadful they were in reality under the guidance of Bruce.

He hasn't even gone yet  that fella (his agent?) even says so in the report.

Fair points about the injuries

I think Cana would have grown into Premier League

Zenden / Malbranque both included as they have experience and were useful in short periods

Bent and Gyan are greedy but you cant doubt their ability and records here (particularly Bent)

That would have been a very decent squad IMO and given the timescales of us having them on our books, not entirely unrealistic

Lacking in ambition? I've said it for years and nufc went and proved my point last season. They appointed a decent scout, signed a few good players and are in Europe in the space of 2 years. Meanwhile, we're changing the squad EVERY season spending stupid amounts of money of f***ing rubbish like Craig Gardner (6mil ). 7 (?) years later and we've reached the dizzy heights of 10th.

Any decent player we're linked with is immediately labelled as "too good" by our support.

boo hoo

I'm fine mate. I think i'll get over it. Most successful time of my life as a Sunderland fan. ;)

:lol::lol: crazy isn't it? Settled, safe with games to spare...never ever enough. Let's buy some mercenaries!!

mensah in his last season with us was still miles out infront as our best defender. the OPTA stats showed he had the most interceptions, most successful clearances, highest tackle completion rate.

for some reason his name is now mud because he was set the task of dealing with fletcher and got utterly no help from the other 10 players on the field or the referee, even tho fletcher was being a right dirty shit.

his injuries were his only problem, he performances were not.
