I had reservations about the American Office but from the 3rd season onwards it is absolutely brilliant

really? I gave up after one - might have to download the later stuff and give them another chance. I presume that means it has left behind the pale shadowing of the originals- given they didnt run that long??

much better - posting 4 smillies took you three minutes compared to the 17 minutes to backtrack an exchange and repeat points already covered.
:lol::oops::roll:

:lol: but actually very  for you. It is a basic skill to read a thread before responding to it. 17 minutes after the event you go over it again. Noboduy was questioning the photoshop of the Office as you would see if you had read on before wishing to seem clever. You must be fun at message board quizzes

as for B) if that was the posters obce removed point then its a bit poor. So our league is an Americanism because it is the world's most popular and heavily marketed to helkp gain our club and others a strong income stream. Poor stuff - is being 'successfully promoted' by definition American? No wonder ouyr economy is on it knees if that is a widespread belief.

go on then what are you saying? - only been asked three times now - you and tatty having Mares here.

You made a point of stating that you dislike poor American immitations and then come out with the Americanism 'EPL' in the same sentence. You know this already though.

Ah - if you can't defend an asertion - just repeat it!!! I realise why you think you had identified Irony.

I realise this is the fifth time you have been asked but can you please explain how EPL is an Americanism?? Apparently the letters are the issue here unlike Tatties interpretatiuon given you put 'EPL' in inverted commas.

OMG, are you serious? The Premier League is Americanised the same way that the X Factor is Americanised, for example.
And no, OMG is not an Americanism. Well, it kind of is, but not because it's an acronym.

I would suggest because it fits in with the American trend of using acronyms relating to sporting federations-NBA, NFL, MLB etc. That's not uniquely American necessarily but I don't think the first division was commonly known as the FD or owt. Part of the commercialisation of sport to use acronyms, of which the Premier League is an example, but the roots for that are certainly American. It's not a common practice in the UK I wouldn't say.

I'll give you a clue, it's not because it's called the EPL ;)

According to Mainstand it is about the use of 'EPL' - you said it was NOT and was about the Marketing and Hype.

Not exactly crystal clear then is it - it couldnt have been (just maybe) as I couldnt be arsed typing the full name out instead of just abbreviating.

I know I started this thread but for fucks sake PARSNIP THIS SHITE

Because it is, not every acronym is, but i never said that any way, and you are boring the tits off me.

EPL was never ever coined until probably after the World Cup 1994, the Premiership was only in its early years and football, or 'soccer' as you probably call it was not that big over there.

EPL, the English Premier League was a phrase coined by Americans, not us as we wouldnt call it the English Premier League as it is native to us. The EPL, NFL, even PK for penalty kick for God's sake, all americanisms, not merely acronyms.

Case closed, TY OMG.

you and Mainstand clearly differ then. Maybe I should leave the two of you to it.

source: but its OK - there isnt one

EPL is an abbreviation used by the Barclay's Premier League in its global marketing - so perhaps you should try to impress them instead with their vulgar use of language.

You are certainly confused about what an abbreviation and an acronym are. EPL is a short-hand identifier no more no less - I would never call it that in spoken langauge anymnore than refer to a 'PL' (that would be an Americanism ;) - but to suggest that any short hand used on a message board is an americanism is factually and historically wrong. Using OMG of course by contrast - had I used that - is an abbrecviation or acronym of an American expression - hence an Americanism.

oh, and plenty of full acronyms are widely used with their own country from SPL for example.

Case - as you say - closed.

 clearly not ROFL

its good! - but the reacharound you are managing is a poor mask for having contradicted each other in your failed attempts to be clever.

oh the first season was cringeworthy, I suppose it was a way to introduce the characters to the audience but crazy they just basically used the same script as the English Office. The newer ones moulded into a brand new show, I f***ing love it.
