I put loads of whole ones in the freezer last year and just take them out when I need them. Don't seem to loose any heat of flavour.

Or you could mince them up and store them in oil.. had a few jars on the go. Keep for ages.

Not really a fan of dried chillis.. but last a canny while just left hanging in the kitchen as well

Make sure you thin them out when the flowers have died else you end up with hundreds of annoyingly small ones....

I am now Berek, thanks for reminding me, lad at work grows them on the window sill

I thought you had to be really careful putting fresh chillis in oil - something about a danger of botulism?

Not done me any harm. I don't think.

The minced chilli you get in the shops is in oil isn't it?

I think they will have either heat treated it or dried it first.

Don't take my word for it tho', google around a bit. I was looking for "recipes" for chilli oil when I found a few articles warning about it.

Going to give it a go. Got a greenhouse last year and nothing really came off. Reckon I will have better luck this year. My Sage and Thyme grew well in pots outside so I'm hoping to get some Rosemary on the go and maybe some other herbs.

rosemary will grow outside no bother, either in pots or just in the border

You would think so but for some reason mine died a horrible death. I'll give it another go this year.

Mine survived really well and are still going.
I'll give that site a look. Going to concentrate on chillis and tomatoes this year. Think the herbs will take care of themselves.

what a waste of greenhouse space growing nowt but chillies.

I have an 8' x 6' and a 4' x 6' and fill them with cherry tomatoes.

I grew Sungold last year (allegedly the sweetest tomat ever)

I live on me own but use the tomatoes for tomato soups, and italian sauces (which freeze well) and for salads.

14 plants last year - yield around 40kg

reet im ganna grow some as well. will a little box on me kitchen window sill be ok?? do i just hoy the seed in and hope?

you'd be better off just nipping into the local garden centre and getting a couple of plug plants ready to pot straight out if you're only after 1 or 2 plants and don't really want all the faff on

I'm growing Jalepinos, de Cayenne, Tabasco and Nagga this year, will probably grow 2 or 3 of each. No doubt I'll also have more chilis than I know what to do with but I'll worry about that later in the year. Fortunately this year I have an allotment so don't have the space issues I had last year.

just a small window sill tbh but gets plenty sunlight.
now if i just get a bit potting compost and put it in a tray can i use the seeds out of fresh chillies and plant them??

Cartmel, that's just down the road from you

I know it is but it would cost me more in petrol than postage

also i'd spend more money
