Just bought an old landrover and fancy doing a bit of light off-roading before moving on to proper offroading. Anyone do this and can recommend any routes in the NE? Ive tried looking on Byway Map but most of the routes on there look canny sedate.

I worked with a lad years ago who was into this and other off road trials in his landy. There’s a few forums (I couldn’t tell you the name!!) he used to attend arranged meets for this sort of thing.

It sort of sounds a bit seedy reading that back. @Cow

On two wheels you have groups like the TRF
My mates out every Sunday around the region
Weardale ,Consett, teesside etc
The tracks generally are old legal roads
I'd suggest finding a group to join . Among ten people there'll be one map expert
Going off piste is frowned upon

I worked with a bloke that went home with a green Land Rover on a Friday and came back to work on the Monday with a newer blue one with the same reg.

I asked him about it and he just touched his nose a few times.

Get on Green Laning UK group on Facebook (Yeah I know), then search the group, it been asked many times for the NE, I found some off there for North Yorkshire, although only done the most moderate ones. Got a feeling my Jeep YJ will become more of a moneypit once it's used as it should be.

This helped, thanks. They organise trips out (although charge £90 for the privilege of driving your own vehicle 🤔) which will ease me into it.
