Fellow smb greece lovers, recommend me an island for 2019

been to Parga this year and the previous two summers was Santorini and Skiathos Town, thoroughly enjoyed all 3 (especially parga/skiathos) and seek something similar for next year .

not interested in going somewhere thats become too commercialised and full english brekkies advertised everywhere , a harbour is always a plus and lots of character

never been to Crete so thats an option and also Mykonos looks nice but dunno if its still full of sausage jockeys or if thats all changed now , Kefalonia looks nice but think would maybe be too quiet

haway.. where you been and what did you think

I've been to Hersonissos on Crete and really liked it - would def recommend. The main strip (if ya wanna call it that) is on the harbour and you can sit on the beach all night drinking and eating free crisps. Some crackin' places for bait, and Koutouloufari is just a small walk up the hill for a more traditional change of scenery. I was tempted to go back this year but the Tuesday flights didn't fit in with what holidays I have left.

I like the look of Symi
symi town does look nice mate, but im sure (and i maybe wrong) that this was/is the island that suffers with migrants travelling over from turkey by boat on a daily basis ?

also , how did you get there , are there direct flights or is it a ferry from rhodes ?

Nope

ok for couples/families ? was sure one of the resorts was geared up for 18-30 just couldnt remember which one it was
Where I mentioned is ideal. Not so sure about families though - maybe one of the bigger 'resort' type hotel complexes would suit.

Agios Nikolaos is more like a working town than a holiday resort. Lovely place to visit mind. It's got the harbour and then a lake with loads of waterside eateries around. Plenty of eateries, bars, shops etc., in the streets running off. Beautiful place but more expensive than other resorts as has been said.

Malia is the 18-30 party resort so avoid that one.

Been to Naxos and Paros , both years ago and are easy to get to by ferry via Santorini nowadays lovely unspoilt beaches and traditional Greek tavernas' but also quiet so if you want more than food and a few drinks on an evening they may not appeal to you.Was on Thassos a couple of years ago and that was nice but you need to stay in Thassos Town if you want a bit of nightlife,it's a smaller version of Skiathos Town but the Island itself is a lot larger than Skiathos so you need to hire a car to get to most beaches unlike the bus service in Skiathos. You fly to Kavala on the mainland the it is short ferry ride away and easy to pop back over for a day out.

For Symi you fly to Rhodes and get a ferry over , was thinking about Symi for this year so I looked into it.
The migrant thing was in 2015 and it was spread across a lot of the islands in the southern Aegean, It has not been an issue since 2015 and to be honest we were on Kos that year and in the resort we were staying in never saw anything

We have stayed in Rethymno and had a lovely holiday, the old town is beautiful and we loved wandering around there of an evening. I wasn’t keen on the beaches as I thought they were a bit crowded with sun beds . One of the best things we did on that holiday was a day out to elafonisi beach , simply stunning!
We’ve also stayed in Elounda which is beautiful and close enough to get into Agios nikolaos for a day or evening .
Sissi, lovely little place and very relaxing and Koutouloufari which is in the hills above Hersonissus.

Symi is a ferry from Rhodes (normally work with a Saturday/Wednesday departure from the UK - needs to be AM or a night in Rhodes town awaits). Harbour is incredible, but during the day its a hike or a taxi boat (€€€€€) to one of the 5 main beaches. The town beach isn't great.

Have you thought about Skopelos? Into Skiathos and ferry over. Again though main town beach isnt great. But the town is a bit busier than Symi of an evening I would say.
