Again, this is a red herring. The favourite in the Grand National has often been around the 10/1 mark and it reflects the fact that with the handicap and the many chances of something 'going wrong' you have 40 horses that cover a broadly similar range of ability or chance. Golf is the same in a number of ways.

He'd also would probably have been a very very good quarterback . .. or baseball player . . Or basketball player ... . The bloke he is chasing as the best golfer of all time chose a career in golf when he had the chance in plenty other sports. . . Woods is a sportsman . . And possibly the best of all time . In any sport. . . Possibly

Eleven Grand Tours (five Tours of France, five Tours of Italy, and a Tour of Spain), all of the five Monuments, three World Championships, the hour record, every major one-day race other than Paris–Tours, and extensive victories on the track.

    Yup, canny ;)

I thought to qualify as a sportsman you had to play a sport?

    Really?

I don’t know by the way but I would be amazed if that was true.

For me, it is almost impossible to define and I personally can’t stand Woods but he elevated the game and standards of golf to an unseen level. Phenomenal golfer who transcends sport.

He is also brought it to the masses (well him and Mike Ashley)

It is nothing like it. Using the Grand National analogy the best ranked player would have 3 clubs to use on his round and the lowest rank the full ensemble.

Golf isnt handicapped (at professional level).

  18. Yay!

They are all much of a muchness and anyone can win on their day, so it's competitive because many can win.

Golf can be interesting because of this but it really is a game or pasttime not a sport.

You're missing the point. As the following post says, even at the top, golfers tend to be much of a muchness. To push the Grand National analogy, they are all running off a similar weight.
