Grealish - Not Taking a Penalty

It was already put to bed iirc in the presser this morning by Southgate
Have you seen some of the posts. Sterling is being hunted
Probably could have waited and the gaffer to clarify it at the press conference. I'm sure he would have.

But really I see nothing wrong with that tweet. He's not slagged the boss off.
Some people didn’t believe him when GS said it. They said he was just protecting his players.
I find that strange because he deliberately subbed 2 players on to take the penalties, so he clearly had a plan and wasn’t just going asking if they fancied it or not

Anar. Imagine that. Sorry Sako marra I know I brought you on for a penna but Jack wants it.

He was desperate to leave or until the last moment possible. There were two opportunities to bring them on whilst they were stood on the sideline, but he held back to the point where they nearly didn't get on at all.

It would have been far too attacking!

What was bizarre was that when they did come on Rashford played right back, despite the fact the Saka was playing as a forward and he's had plenty of Premier League games playing as a full back.
Could have cost us the game. They had a corner in the last minute of play. Bringing on a team of attackers could have easily cost us.
I know it’s all what if’s but imagine Italy score from that corner, GS would not have a job this morning. It was irresponsible and reckless.
we could argue all day that if they scored he’d look like a tactical genius, but they didn’t and he doesn’t.
GS is a great bloke so this might sound harsh, but he does not deserve to manage so much attacking talent with his negative attitude.
If we are serious about next years WC then Southgate needs to go

Southgate choose the list and it was the wrong one.
define wrong list , could be asked players and didnt want to be in the first 5 sterling jaded after 120 mins of running could be his legs had gone , no one will know if you wernt out there on the grass with them.

In hindsight, yes it was.
If the dice had landed the other way then the saves from Pickford could have got us through.
If the shoot-out was replayed those players may well have buried their kicks and we'd all be celebrating. Such is the way of penalty shoot-outs.
..but Southgate did ask Grealish twice and Grealish said yes...then went to Saka! Bit of a Mike Bassett approach imo.

Felt sorry for young Saka, the pressure of having to go on and make things happen was immense, far too much.

Then we come to penalties and the manager again loads his shoulders with more heavy baggage....not acceptable. GS you fucked up badly.

I understand that they practice them in training a lot and stuck to the order based on that, but you've still got to apply some common sense to that and not put yourself in a situation where you are putting the hopes of a nation on a 19 year old kid and putting him in the most pressurised situation imaginable. He should never have been number five.

Saka took a terrible penalty but you can't blame a young kid for that in that situation.

That being said I'm far more critical of the negative approach to the game that landed us in a penalty shootout to start with.
