Grant Holt outs in transfer request

He is a very very average footballer, yes he has scored a few goals this season, fair play to the lad, but other than his goals his all round ability as a footballer is limited, hence why he didn't get in the euro squad and pretty much all the pundits tend to agree with the decision, although very few will say why they agree. Other than getting on the end of crosses he isn't really good at anything else. Would rather have Danny Graham as someone earlier mentioned, much better player.

Which is exactly what we need. We won't just be signing one striker this summer, so having someone like Holt as one of the strikers coming in is fine.

Sceptical, had players of his ilk come and go in the past and very few have made any kind of impact. Personally i would be disappointed if we bought him on the back of one good season. If you look back you would probably find that he scored the majority of his goals in the first half of the season. He will find it much more difficult to score goals next year, teams will have figured him out and he will have to adapt to continue scoring, this is something he will struggle to do as his game is quite one dimensional.

Also at 31 i really don't see the point unless it is as some kind of mentor to Wickham, showing him how to use his frame, etc.

31 years old isn't too concerning providing we don't pay too much. He could still have 2/3 years in him due to his game not being based on pace and more about movement and strength. For the right price he could be a very shrewd signing. Just hope we don't go and pay anything over £4m.

Correct.

That's exactly why O'Neill wanted us to sign Kevin Davies, to give us something different up front but also to help bring on Wickham and Ji. That player being Holt, who is younger and more prolific than Davies would be a bonus.

Fair enough, i never checked. Still think he will struggle next year. A slightly younger Kevin Davies, who only a few people on here really wanted to sign. Can't see why people are that keen on him, average player.

Because most realise that a player like Holt is what O'Neill likes to have in his teams, think Carew at Villa or Hartson at Celtic.
