Is there an optimum time when to book for GC or LNER for that matter?

I am looking to book tickets for a weekend London trip in October. The outward (friday afternoon) is about £28 but the return leg (sunday afternoon) about £68. Do the ticket prices ever come down?

It's cheaper for me mates flying in from Dublin than it is for me getting the train from Sunlun.

That's actually a really decent price.

12 or 16 weeks before time of travel is the best time as this is when the timetables are 100% confirmed. Normally see the prices drop a bit. I think you can set up alerts on the Virgin East Coast or Trainline website for the 12 week time

I've usually got it for less than that in the past. Just don't know if that ticket started at one price and came down or was always that. I only paid about £50 last time.

See if you can split ticket and get it cheaper. You might not be able to

When was last time? Ticket prices have gone up under this shite ownership.

As said above, set up a ticket alert.

Generally speaking, not possible on the east coast mainline.

I did wonder if that might not be possible.

Normally get £30 return if you book when they first come out.

A cheaper option would be to go into the ticket office at the train station with some sausage rolls. Negotiate some kind of swap deal.

    Try mainline back up?

Anyone got a spare voucher code for the lad? Need all mine. Return does sound steep for gc.

It really isn't a decent price.

Wait til the cheap tickets come out. You should be able to get an alert sent to you when these tickets are first released.

Was about 10 months ago or so.
That said I've also travelled for work and the ticket has cost in excess of £200 but they were only booked within a few days of travel.

Thanks all I will set up an alert.
  14. Whats this all about marra, mainline backup and voucher codes?

If you register with gc you get a 20% voucher after every trip.

    20% off your next journey

I thought he may get home cheaper on a newcastle train maybe but at present the twats are charging £136. Certain this will be far less nearer the time like.

  20. If you want to travel LNER you need a time machine and set the dial no later than 1948.
