RIP

I thought he was much younger than 72 but thinking back it was over 30 years ago that his Watford side were doing so well.

He always came across as a really likeable & knowledgeable football man, unlike journos who hounded him when he was manager of England.

Seemed like a really nice guy. One of my first football memories was of our 98/99 side, thrashing Watford 4-1 (they went ahead after about 10 minutes), and was very complimentary towards us and likened SAFC to the tide.

RIP.

I never really disliked the bloke regarding England I just didn't think he was that good of a manager and after that documentary came out he looked even more pitiful, he didn't come across as a bad fella just out of his depth ...RIP

WTF are you talking about.....he took Watford from oblivion to the top of the game with debuts for Blissett and Barnes amongst others with a style of football that ripped teams to shreds............aye including us.

Armfield is class. You can tell he's got a real love for the game. Is he still on 5live?
Jimmy Armfield is a top man and was a top player.
In his heyday he was looked upon as just about being the best right back in the world.
In the 1962 World Cup in Chile he was named in the best 11 of the tournament he was England captain but he lost his place to George Cohen through injury and the captaincy to Bobby Moore.
He was in the squad for 1966 though, but he just couldn't regain his place back from Cohen.

Let's see how the press who treat him awfully during his lifetime portray their reactions to this.
I was under the impression that the press only went after him due to his international managerial failures.

What else did they do to treat him awfully during his lifetime?

Why did people assume he was still a teenager?
I'm actually surprised he was only mid 40's when he was England manager, yet on the other hand surprised he was as old as 72 now.

Work that out! Time flies I guess.

Read the post you stupid twat ..I was talking about England...

Seemed an OK bloke to me.

It's a pity he'll be remembered for the infamous Phil Neal footage on the touchline before he got sacked. Pilloried by the media
