GP Referral to Consultant

I would like to see a consultant to try and get on the waiting list for a minor op, but the doc just keeps refusing to refer me. I've asked 3 times now.
I asked numerous times to be referred to a specialist about pain in my hips over the course of two and a half years and 3 different GPS wouldn't refer me saying I was too young and they wouldn't do anything anyway, eventually a one did. Saw the surgeon and he said my hips were total fucked (didn't say fucked like) and asked why I'd left it so long.

7 weeks after seeing the surgeon I had my operation and a shiny new hip

Saw a consultant with a fortnight of being referred by the gp

Pre op next week. Op to follow, hopefully sorted by Christmas

All national health, no problems at all

Once I eventually got referred the process was great, less than 2 weeks from the Dr referring me to seeing the rheumatologist, then a week and half later saw the surgeon and had pre op the same day, then 7 weeks later had my op.

Was just getting the f***ing doctors to take my pain seriously

If you get no joy, report it to the patient participation group and NHS England
Mention cqc, they'll soon sort it
Looks like it's a combination of incompetence by both parties. Even though I called yesterday and was told the referral hadn't been received, the lass who the practice manager called this morning confirmed it was received on Friday and the referral is on the system. I'm leaving the proper complaint till I get all sorted though, it's like food isn't it, don't complain till after your meal, that way they can't spit in it!

The real annoying thing is not having a date yet. Occy health have told me that they'll look at getting me into Aspire if it's going to take ages, but until I have a date they can't do anything! Sick of the whole f***ing thing. If my foot falls off I'll be canny fucked off.

Hopping mad no doubt

Pot luck I suppose how you get treated. Go to my gp and when I ask him why this is hurting or that is swollen all of a sudden, he just turns around and says well you've never been 48 before !
Last year it used to be the same but 47
Doesnt fill me with confidence

What's the crack with this? Is it right you are well within your rights to request a referral to the consultant of your choice?
You used to be able to ask your doctor to refer you to a specific consultant of your choice, but that was years ago before all this internal market bollocks came into being. Now my understanding is that they give you a option to book from a choice of hospitals that they will have contracts with. But when you book with one of these you can't choose a specific consultant.
Or a meringue?
