This was always going to be a benefit of brexit. The chance to do something for short term gain despite the long term cost. Economically in the short term, environmental laws are annoying. They limit growth and cost more, but do serve a good purpose too.
Members of the single market agree to the level playing field to force each other into holding up the same costly standards, then neither gets a commercial advantage by doing something damaging. We claimed pulling out would allow us to make stricter laws, but you can always make stricter. A lot of people could see through this to find it really means more relaxed laws. We will likely find the same for workers rights.
