Why chant on a train? I remember being on the tube from Fulham a few year back and people were jumping up and down and singing whilst on their way back from the game.

There was mothers and kids shitting themselves. Its totally pathetic

This isn't about football, its around appropriate behaviour in a public place.
I was on the train back from London a few months ago and some pissed up Geordies got on after being at Doncaster Races. Language etc.,in front of children/families totally unacceptable.

If it's making others on the carriage visibly uncomfortable, then that's not right. Personally if it was me with my son and I could see he didn't like it or getting upset, I would just move. Whether that's right or wrong, I'm not such a delicate soul to have a hissy fit over it. Probably because I've been known to have a chant and daft carry on myself, but don't see the big deal, personally to just moving. In fact I would be straight to first class and go in there. Seen people do it before and stewards just let them through. Other than chanting and swearing, I've never seen any threatening behaviour towards anyone and I dare say 99% of any safc fan on there wouldn't have it. As usual there is a few being a bit precious and all high and mighty. It's not a huge problem from what I've witnessed and tends to be single carriages where it happens.

I don't think anyone is having a hissyfit, the vast majority are in agreement that there is a time and place for it and a busy train is not it.

The main argument from the chanters seems to be if you don't like it move, but if you've got an allocated seat and the train is full where would you like people to move to?

Never been on a remotely full train back in years mate. Aye in an ideal situation no one should have to move. Just saying myself, I wouldn't get all worked up about it. There is always plenty of room on the train and I would go straight to first class.

Dober, I aint going to argue with you there, mate as there is a lot of sense. However, if your mrs and kids are next to them then it aint nice. Needs to be a bit respect for other travellers. Think about their needs and journey. Bit of 50/50 and that. To be fair, the lad has said that he has no complaint. To me he should be getting no grief after that. Hold your hands up and say that you were wrong then fair enough. Credit to him for doing so.

As a rule of thumb Lauder tends not to respect anyone apart from his definition on a safc "customer".70+ and want to sit at an away match?Well fuck off to the front is his response

Why chant on a train?

audibly supporting the football team from out of the range of earshot
it makes no sense
its bravado and alcohol causing these usually coherent males to transform into wild animals
foul language and intimidating arm gestures towards strangers , familys, children and even pets
" please sir can you please be qu.."
SHUT THE EFF UP!

then silence

then without a hint of remorse...

AAAAALAN SHEARERS ILLEGITIMATE!

the carraige now practically literally vibrating due to the fear of the other passengers
we just want to get to our destination
we didnt want this
we didnt want to be locked inside a moving zoo? with unpredictable men with funny shaped heads shouting about football
bits of spittle flying out their mouths into each others faces creating not an issue but a bond a little droplet of brotherhood
had i been privvy to such scenes as i have in the past i would tackle things as i have in the past
i would go over to them
turn my back ( this is both a protest about their vulgarity and disgusting behaviour) and also so i may fire a little pump out at them before running into and locking the toilet

Obviously they haven't had enough drink before and during the match, I'm always asleep within 5 mins of getting back on the train. But I'm old , so skinchies!

How many times are trains on the way back full of non-football fans?

How many bairns are usually on a train from London at 7.50 on a Saturday night?

If the lad was merely thrown off for singing, what law has he broken?

Unless we know what he was singing/shouting/chanting then it would be difficult to say but I suspect it was not simply singing! Were there threats? Was there foul language? Was it intimidating? Was it loud? Did it cause alarm or distress? I would suggest dependant on the answers to those questions it could include Public Order offences - https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/p_to_r/public_order_offences/

The bottom line is if you behave in a rowdy manner then you are going to be 'put yourself on offer' and be treated with contempt. If you don't like it then don't do it!

Someone will reply and say other people should stop listening if they don't like hearing it.

It's been said what he was chanting, songs about not being from peterlee & asbestos removal!

Sounds like he was pissed & being daft but not being any bother.

He's not committed any offences, but if he was carrying on in a pub like that he's be thrown out, why should a train be any different?

Yes, he seems to come across as a decent lad on this and its a shame if he wasn't causing any bother. But the message to supporters must be 'if you want to sing and/or drink on the way to or from a match then do so by independent means and not public transport'.
