Silly me I thought we were talking about your incorrect statement that jailbreaking an iPhone was illegal!

The point I'm trying to make, which you're either avoiding or are too thick to see, is that guilt often depends on motive as well as action.

If you break into a house to rescue a baby from a fire you're a hero. If you do it to rob an old lady during the night (and get caught) you're a villain and likely convict.

If you jailbreak for one of the 6 allowed reasons (which don't cover anyone on here that I've ever seen mention it) you're ok, if you do it for other, nefarious purposes (the rest) then you're breaking the DMCA if within its reach (which includes where I live, via an FTA).

So the reason why you jailbreaked matters, and it's not hard to see why people do it from threads on here.

Got it yet?

Its not illegal you buffoon!

Quite funny how you work through the night to try and find some justification for your argument though

You always try and twist EVERYTHING though!!

If you jailbreak a phone it is NOT illegal.

If you then go on and install pirated software THAT is then illegal, the jailbreak still remains legal however.

You get something wrong, then try and wriggle out of it with daft comparisons, just admit it and say "I was wrong" - it's not hard ;)

Then answer the questions - the "fanboy says it's so, so it's so" argument, over and over again, isn't any more persuasive than the dodgy pub match watcher saying the match is being shown legally, or the torrent file sharer claiming no crime or harm.

You're waffling about nowt - just admit you dropped a bollock and that you think we're a bunch of pedants.

It's not illegal, you're wrong and you're acting like a petulant child

Fuck off Sleepy.

You do know that roker poker and boris bear are one & the same dont ya?

I didn't but having to invent people who agree with you just to desperately try and give yourself some credibility definitely fits the profile.

I'd wait for the HTC Sensation if I was going to get an android phone. Sony phones are shit.

Makes great sense buying a shitty experia (all of them have been shitty) just before the iPhone5 comes out

Looks like the iPhone 5 will be getting delayed seeing as Apple couldn't make a phone out of white plastic

Unlucky

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...iPhone-4-could-be-available-in-two-weeks.html

Apple is set to launch the much-delayed white iPhone 4 in two weeks time, say Bloomberg sources.

The new version is understood to be coming available in the USA on AT&T and Verizon Wireless by the end of this month.

However, this news has fuelled speculation that the iPhone 5, which was expected to launch in June, will no longer be released this year.

Bloomberg’s sources say that that the white iPhone 4 was postponed after the company found that the white paint peeled under heat.

In a statement last June, Apple said: “White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July [2010].”

Last month, Phillip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, hinted on Twitter that a white model would be available by this spring.

You learn something new every day I guess :)

Still wouldn't justify the cost per unit on a contract though.

Aye, they're expensive - it's a premium item and priced accordingly.

Summat like the HTC Whatever will do broadly the same job, but won't be quite as la-di-da so is a bit more affordable.

That Xperia Arc looks very nice - presume it's not that much cheaper than the iPhone? I used the old Xperia before, it seemed lovely hardware but the interface felt a bit odd, as if they'd spent all their effort making it look pretty rather than making it easy to use. If the new one has more pared back interface then it could be great.

That implies that Apple had announced the iPhone 5 for summer, and they haven't.

I very much doubt there will be an iPhone 5 this year. I can't think if any major improvements they could make given the technology that's out there. Perhaps there'll an iPhone 4S or whatever - a bit faster, a better camera etc., but I think it's much more likely that the next iPhone will be a mid level model with fewer features. That's what they did with the iPods.

No answers because I am talking about one thing and one thing only, you said jailbreaking IS illegal, you are wrong.

You can't even get what you're talking about right. To remind you of the two things :)lol:) you're arguing about (in nice colours):

If you jailbreak a phone it is NOT illegal.

If you then go on and install pirated software THAT is then illegal, the jailbreak still remains legal however
.

PS it is NOT illegal to jailbreak the iPhone - so no different to what you do on symbian/android etc to install unsigned software..

With regards to symbian, for people who wanted to pirate software they needed to hack their phones, yes or no?

It doesn't matter what you do with it after Jailbreaking...

..With Symbian as well the same thing is available readily, you download signed apps, use various "hacks" on your device to allow them to run. So it does exist.
:

Summarised as:
  1. jailbreaking is not illegal, nomatter what you do afterwards

  2. the same thing happens in Symbian, where you hack your phone to run apps that are protected by signing
Hence I've asked you directly relevant questions:
1a) Why did Congress stipulate 6 SPECIFIC circumstances under which you can legally jailbreak (under the DMCA) if it's GENERALLY true that you can legally jailbreak (under the DMCA), or if the reason for jalbreaking doesn't matter?

1b) Can you provide a link to a conversation on here, where jailbreaking is discussed for one of those six purposes?

2) Why do you think that Symbian signing is a copy protection thing?

So answer them, instead of dodging the chance to show that there's some reasoning behind the statements you keep repeating over, and over, and over and over again (amongst the pictures and smileys).

You know when people start colour coding their replies that the thread has entered the Twilight Zone.

The day I start doing that is the day that I log off forever.

1a) The reason is surely quite simple? They need to be specific to cover their arses, they cannot have a free for all. They say jailbreaking is legal under certain circumstances as it would be idiotic of them to say it is legal to jailbreak IF your sole intention is to then commit piracy....but the fact is that jailbreaking IS LEGAL.

1b) http://www.readytogo.net/smb/search.php

2) I thought (could be wrong and will admit if i am!!) that to install shady Apps on a symbian device you had to mess about with the signing process, either sign it yourself, unsign it (maybe?) or install something to bypass the signature??
