Got the Xperia Arc on Preorder

Call it misplaced but I have a soft spot for SE as a make (harking back to my k800i days). I think this phone could get them back on track (small steps possibly but reviews beg to differ - I'll essentially have 7 days to give it a whirl and either cancel and see out the remainder of my iPhone contract and get something then or if I'm impressed I'll keep it). A decent camera and video and call reception is a must, and this is one area where Sony are strong.

They've had a bad run (dreadful run really ;)) but you can't deny the reviews for this have been impressive. All things point to a keeper really, but with the Galaxy S2 coming up who knows?

I like them (SE). I thought about the original Xperia for a while, but the reports of constant crashes put me off just before clicking the "Add to cart" button. By all accounts the later ones have been very good though.

Re. Boris Bear et al, I really don't understand why some people treat phones like cock substitutes. To me, that can only mean one thing.

Rather a pony than a git.

Fair play

My cock usually gets a great reception. ;)

The last Xperia Mini Pros can be had unlocked for about £65 now - I'm sorely tempted to get one for a 'knock-about' phone

up to page 3 and boris is absolutely running rings around garvey so far

1 - 0 to the iphone so far

The fact that you compare a Nokia 5800 to an iPhone (any generation is laugable).

The Nokia has a shitty resistive screen is slow as fuck, very limited, shit graphics, poor camera (read the reviews not the specs), low grade plastic build, horrible UI, lack of applications/support.

You're a pony whose single trick is to bang on about how iPhone is locked down by apple despite the evidence that most people jailbreak their phones and customise them as well as having the ability to download any application (before you start banging on about maps) for zilch.

You're right, the resistive screen is annoying (but ability to use a styles is sometimes useful), it really needs more RAM and there are some aspects of the UI that drive you nuts.

OTOH it's a 3 year old design that still does more things than an iPhone, it doesn't need illegal hacking, and it still drives you mental that someone can say that and be right. FACT.

Embarrassed yourself again.......jailbreaking is not illegal

what the hell are you going to do now HBT now Nokia have fucked off to Windows Phone 7? You might be stuck with that 5800 forever ;)

PS it is NOT illegal to jailbreak the iPhone - so no different to what you do on symbian/android etc to install unsigned software..

Whether or not jailbreaking is illegal depends on your reason for doing it. Since the reason for doing it, as is ALWAYS clear here, is to use software and/or features that haven't been paid for, it is illegal. I've never once seen "jailbreaking" mentioned in a context that would exempt someone from the terms of the DMCA in the US, for example, and that's before you even get into other areas of law.

Furthermore, on Symbian you sign apps yourself if the publisher didn't. In 2 years of using mine, I've never once had a reason to "jailbreak" it, and as fas as I know it isn't even possible in the Apple sense of the term.

Face it - Apple sold you an overpriced toy that you have to break the law to make proper use of, like everyone else can out of the box (until they eventually give in and implement the missing features in iOS anyway - multitasking, tethering, Flash, etc, etc). ;)

That's like saying Nokia 5800s are illegal because someone may use their screens to do a line.

No you're wrong, it's not illegal..........and your lass is inflatable

It doesn't matter what you do with it after Jailbreaking, you said jailbreaking is illegal which is wrong, dont try and backtrack now..

Maybe you should read the various links from here: http://www.macworld.com/article/152935/2010/07/jailbreak_exemption.html

With Symbian as well the same thing is available readily, you download signed apps, use various "hacks" on your device to allow them to run. So it does exist.

So, in summary, you do NOT have to break the law to jailbreak and enhance an iOS device, tethering and multitasking is available without a jailbreak. Flash is a buggy pice of shite which is only SOMETIMES useful.

There you have it

Why did Congress stipulate 6 SPECIFIC circumstances under which you can legally jailbreak (under the DMCA) if it's GENERALLY true that you can legally jailbreak (under the DMCA), or if the reason for jalbreaking doesn't matter?

Can you provide a link to a conversation on here, where jailbreaking is discussed for one of those six purposes?

Why do you think that Symbian signing is a copy protection thing?

Routergate all over again.

More iDiocy.

Phones aren't made, sold or bought for the express purpose of assisting the use of illegal narcotics. Except perhaps in your house.

Jailbreaking, done for the express purpose of defeating mechanisms which protect copyrighted works, is criminalised under the DMCA, along with the tools that do it, and the distribution of those tools.

Hope that helps, Ironside.
