When I search for something on Google and click a search result - it keeps loading a page for another search engine or a price comparison site rather than the page I want.

I've ran a virus check/ad-aware and shown system is clean.

Anyone have any ideas how I can stop this?

Hijackthis.

Or restart in safe mode with netwroking on, download and install malwarebytes, then run that. Always does the job for me.

Sounds like a rootkit infection in which case TDSSKiller worked for me, just bear in mind it deletes all your cookies so you have to log in to websites, forums etc again.

This. I just got rid of the same thing on my comp last night with this.
Spybot, malwarbytes etc don't work.

Been seeing a lot of rootkits recently. TDSSkiller hasn't failed me yet. Run malwarebytes after that.

Exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, now using another crap search engine which lets me click on the results without redirecting. Although some 'windows vista security centre' bullshit keeps popping up asking me to subscribe and adverts are played at random through my speakers even if I don't have a browser window open :-(

is it possibly not just the case that something has changed yer home page to something resembling google which has the logo bit is not in fact google, that happened to me a while back,

If TDSSkiller and/or malwarebytes doesn't fix it, get Hijackthis and post up a log.

Changing the home page fixes this how?

Thanks very much mate, will try and sit down and give it all a go at the weekend. Was proving to be a real bastard until a week ago when I worked out that I could run IE and Itunes etc. by right clicking on the shortcut and running it as the administrator, before then an error message appeared everytime I tried to open them! Irritating shit like.

That's an "antivirus200*" variant. Use my advice using Malwarebytes.

It doesn't. Just use the link posted on page 1 and it will sort it. Google "google redirect virus" and you should get the answer too.

The same as me then - Win 7 total security 2011 - goes by many other names though.

A right bastard to get off.

Just system restore from the latest date before it started happening easy, and stop saying yes to shit in future.
