Anybody done any? Did a great trip around the bottom half of Sri Lanka recently (with a bit of bus travel hoyed in). Can anyone recommend any good trips that lasts about 7-10 days?

I did a load of inter-railing when I was a youngun. From Athens to Munich through the old Yugoslavia was a bit hairy.

Taiwan, start in Taipei and get the train right round the island stopping off as you go

We did Bangkok, Lopburi, Phitsanulok, Lampang and Chiang Mai.
Also did a week in Italy by train but only went to Milan, Bologna and Florence and The Netherlands where we did Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam.

Vietnam is all trains. Sleepers with meals (rice and 'meat')

You can fly to plenty of places. Trains take an age given the geographical lay out.

Not disagreeing. We used trains there quite a bit but as you're on limited time itd be tricky.

That’s why I thought of taiwan pretty small so no more than a few hours by train. Taipei to Hualien to visit taroko gorge, Down the east coast to Taitung (maybe hop across to green island for he hot springs and diving), Kenting for the beaches then up through Kaohsiung to Tainan and onto Chiayi where you can head to Alishan and Yushan before heading up through Taichung and back to Taipei
