Clean electricity overtaking fossil fuels in Britain

"For the first time since the Industrial Revolution, Britain is obtaining more power from zero-carbon sources than fossil fuels.

The milestone has been passed for the first five months of 2019.

National Grid says clean energy has nudged ahead with 48% of generation, against 47% for coal and gas.

The rest is biomass burning. The transformation reflects the precipitous decline of coal energy, and a boom from wind and solar."

National Grid says that in the past decade, coal generation will have plunged from 30% to 3%.

Meanwhile, wind power has shot up from 1% to 19%.

Mini-milestones have been passed along the way. In May, for instance, Britain clocked up its first coal-free fortnight and generated record levels of solar power for two consecutive days.

Long may it continue....

Theres no such thing as clean electricity

Meanwhile trump and China are burning giant pandas and starting tyre fires for the crack.
The weird thing is in terms of climate change trump has barely made a difference.

He cancelled their climate obligations but because companies and heavily populated states (California for example) were already so into trying to go greener it just hasn't made an impact. When trump leaves, next year (hopefully) or in 5 more, the next president will go green again because the market's becoming more profitable over time.

And in other news, the burning of fossil fuels assists the further extraction of fossil fuels.

Russia ploughs on with huge Arctic LNG ambitions
Becoming energy independant would help ruin russia like. They have a population double ours and a GDP half of ours.

I work on them a canny bit. They make a right mess but aye they're better than burning coal and gas.
I nearly ended up working on them for siemens years ago.

Weird the lot life gives you

Yay!!!

China's coal consumption on the rise. Coal consumption peaked in China in 2013 at 4.24 billion tonnes. ... Experts say this second consecutive annual increasesuggests China may have de-prioritised energy saving and emissions reduction, owing to the pressures of its slowing economy
