He not a scapegoat he’s just been getting worse every year - he’s a league 2 footballer at best!Anyone else think this lad is becoming a bit of a scapegoat?
I know he frustrates at times with his decision making but he can play some good football also when in his correct position.
He has taken on a tough role at right back recently and he is clearly out of his depth in that position, but people need to cut him some slack. This position should have been addressed in January and Gooch shouldn’t be playing there.
Yesterday at the match I saw a shocking ball played to him and before the ball even got near him the fans lost it with him. Gooch ironically trapped the ball and played it back to Doyle in what stopped the ball going out for a throw in to Doncaster and the fans around me looked a bit silly.
Gooch has been no worse than most during this bad spell but nobody else gets as much abuse as this lad.
I don’t think people want him to fail and people are right to expect better but people need to cut him slack.
Well I’m pages into the thread and it’s about 50/50 that he doesn’t bother/ does too much, can’t control his emotions, doesn’t care enough/ played awful/ was one of our better players yesterdayAll those slating him will be the types who only demand 100% which he does.
I always think there is a decent player in there somewhere if we play to his strengths. Also I would like to point out that I do understand why he gets criticism and have no issues with people criticising an out of form player. I just think he is targeted unfairly at times particularly on a match day when others are just as bad.
Bit of both imo. He's not a scapegoat
He's just not very good
Well it may have benefitted us but how him? Fail to see how playing for a far worse team would be good for himI agree with this. Said to my mate yesterday the move would have been better for him.
Nee one thinks he is mateSeason after season after season after season the lad has failed to improve under countless coaches/managers. People need to accept that the lad is simply not at the standard we need to go forward as a club.
Did you think that as we tumbled through 2 divisions and ended up stuck in league one for our fourth season?I always think there is a decent player in there somewhere if we play to his strengths.
Er some do mateNee one thinks he is mate
Would probably help a player’s confidence to not be heavily criticised every game - even when he does play well enough. I do see your point though in terms of football it is a drop in standard and he is playing games and loves it here so has every right to stay.Well it may have benefitted us but how him? When was the last season he consistently played well enoughWould probably help a player’s confidence to not be heavily criticised every game - even when he does play well enough. Probably our Championship season when he stood out above a toothless lot. He has always been frustrating in the sense he can look great and then suddenly look out of his depth. I am not defending his performances, he shouldn’t be starting games. I just think at times the abuse he gets is over the top. When was the last season he consistently played well enough
No....he has been appallingly bad for a number of months and I'm /was one of his biggest fans since his youth days. He has developed some really bad habits since breaking into the team all those years ago. I posted just after the season began that he would not be in the starting eleven at the end of the season but injuries may just save him...Anyone else think this lad is becoming a bit of a scapegoat?
