Gooch (Scapegoat)

He should never have been selected yesterday, 5 days after we tried to send him to Shrewsbury, while players we brought in on loan from Premier League clubs sat on the bench.

But he's not good enough, he's got worse over the years, he has zero awareness, no control over his temperament, and yesterday he was really hiding.

He played poorly yesterday - 2 shots, and 1 chance created is a poor output against the league's worst team (Pritchard created 5 chances, while Clarke created 3 chances in 30 minutes). He used to pop up with the odd good goal every once in a while, he hasn't scored all season.

I'm not scapegoating him because I don't blame yesterday or this season on him, but I really hope he is done here, and that we don't offer him a new contract.
I agree with this. Said to my mate yesterday the move would have been better for him.

Anyone else think this lad is becoming a bit of a scapegoat?

I know he frustrates at times with his decision making but he can play some good football also when in his correct position.

He has taken on a tough role at right back recently and he is clearly out of his depth in that position, but people need to cut him some slack. This position should have been addressed in January and Gooch shouldn’t be playing there.

Yesterday at the match I saw a shocking ball played to him and before the ball even got near him the fans lost it with him. Gooch ironically trapped the ball and played it back to Doyle in what stopped the ball going out for a throw in to Doncaster and the fans around me looked a bit silly.

Gooch has been no worse than most during this bad spell but nobody else gets as much abuse as this lad.

I don’t think people want him to fail and people are right to expect better but people need to cut him slack.
Good post 👏

At times yesterday it was like he wasn’t concentrating. There were a few times in the first half when he was the obvious pass but was not focusing on the play. Was really frustrated when the keeper was looking to get it out quick and gooch was the only pass and in loads of space but was just jogging away looking at the floor. He is ok in possession but really struggles sometimes when not.
Aye and you can’t have a player who struggles when not on the ball at right back.

Some of the most infuriating things for me about modern football is constantly changing the team and formation, and square pegs in round holes. Gooch has something, like a lot of the lads here. Play him in his position on the wing, keep him there and let him grow into the role.
100%

When was the last game when he played an entire game in the same position, let alone a string of games.

Our fans love a boo boy
And sheep love to follow and give more hyperbole in their description of him for the likes.

The club tried to Peddle him to Shrewsbury last day of the window, what would we of done then had he went? They tried to get rid for a reason, but to play him in the next game after basically saying we don’t want you anymore is absolutely head baffling, I just can’t get my head around some of the decisions that’s been made over these last few months, it’s like we are trying to inflict as much damage to ourselves as possible.
Thing is, there's absolutely no evidence that we tried to peddle him. Just hearsay, on here.

He was far from our worst player yesterday and one of the few to come out with any credit imo.
I just wish he'd concetrate more on the game happening around him and less on getting into tussles with players and arguing with the Ref

He’s absolutely shite. Been an integral part/mainstay of the worst period in our history
Speaks volumes how far we’ve fallen people giving him benefit of doubt

Always gives 110% and it’s largely come from the bairns in the Roker end.

Gooch isn’t great, nobody is saying that but he never shirks responsibility in wanting the ball.
