Gooch (Scapegoat)

Whilst I don't think he's particularly good, he's very rarely played in his correct position this season. He has showed that when played in his correct position he can be an asset in this league. I tell you what won't help, the constant abuse he gets on social media. He's obviously a massive confidence player and he's 100% become a scapegoat. He was in the side that on a good run leading up to the new year and playing well but got no credit for it as that wouldnt have fit the anto Gooch narrative.

If we get to where we want to be he won't be here, he's a limited footballer but tbh the abuse he gets is way over the top. When the ball went wide to him a few times yesterday you could hear the groans around the ground. Who exactly is that going to help?

He's frustrating because the things he does well is really all he needs to do. He can be very affective but how he hasn't learnt to stop making the wrong choices is beyond me.

With Johnson and Flanagan gone, that leaves him as the main scapegoat/target of abuse now. He hasn't been great but it was annoying listening the fans around me grumbling and hurling abuse at the lad. There's a difference between genuine criticism and just flat out slagging someone off, he was no worse than anyone else yesterday. He always grafts and while a lot of the time it doesn't come off, at least he has the balls to actually try and do something. That being said, he needs a few games out the side as well as Neil and Embo, it's not happening for them atm.

Anyone else think this lad is becoming a bit of a scapegoat?

I know he frustrates at times with his decision making but he can play some good football also when in his correct position.

He has taken on a tough role at right back recently and he is clearly out of his depth in that position, but people need to cut him some slack. This position should have been addressed in January and Gooch shouldn’t be playing there.

Yesterday at the match I saw a shocking ball played to him and before the ball even got near him the fans lost it with him. Gooch ironically trapped the ball and played it back to Doyle in what stopped the ball going out for a throw in to Doncaster and the fans around me looked a bit silly.

Gooch has been no worse than most during this bad spell but nobody else gets as much abuse as this lad.

I don’t think people want him to fail and people are right to expect better but people need to cut him slack.

Scapegoat? I’d rather have a goat chasing the ball round aimlessly than Gooch!

Mods there is a clear spelling mistake in the thread title, can you rectify this please to Gooch (Wank)

Cheers and thanks

Codswallop! He’s shite! has ability but doesn’t have the brains to know how to use them. I’ll be stunned if he is given another contract, not good enough in the slightest.

Nothing wrong with saying he's not good enough, it's more the personal abuse and insults which are annoying.

He’s going through exactly what Gordon Armstrong & Gary Owers went through with the crowd after years of being here. Not having a good season but I like the lad and some of the vitriol shown against him is a poor show.

"Failing to beat his man 99% of the time". I remember him getting at least 4 crosses in yesterday. If he was failing to beat his man 99% of the time, then you're saying that he failed to beat his man 396 times yesterday to get those 4 crosses in?

And you say you're being objective?
There's plenty didn't have to beat their man to get a cross in, Nicky Summerbee was good at it, best example Beckham.

Get the ball, feint a cross, knock it a couple of yards ahead, smash off defenders legs, give away a foul.

And repeat

Keane will love Goochie ,his 100 per cent effort and ability to give what he can in various positions sometimes within 90 mins.Whereas a few lazy people will be shitting themselves on Keanos arrival.

He is 100% a scapegoat; because, although he's had some poor games, other players have had similarly poor games and haven't got near the same abuse.

Not that we should be abusing any of our players. He is a frustrating player though, and Clarke will probably start on the left the next day ahead of him.
