Northern Ireland fan confirmed dead 24 year old. Fell 26 feet during fighting on a promenade.
Fighting? Is there a link to that story as all I see is he fell whilst pissed?...

From BBC:
"It is believed Darren Rodgers, who was 25 and from Ballymena, was on his own and fell about eight metres from a promenade onto a rocky beach.
Supt Nigel Goddard, who is leading the PSNI team in France, said he was told it was an accident and not in any way disorder related."

Edit: just seen other thread so don't bother replying on this one.

I was listening to 5live today and there was an English fella on who spends a lot of time working in France.

He said according to the French media the reason the French are so pissed off with us and the Russians is the lack of respect both have shown to France as hosts by their behaviour whether it be organised violence or anti social behaviour.

He also made some good points about Marseille in general and their hooligan element and the fact that 'ultra' type factions are banned from attending away matches (I'm not quite sure how they do this) so domestically these days their coppers don't have to deal with keeping violent home & away fans apart and aren't prepared in the way ours might be.

Fair points. Concerning nevertheless given the heightened level of security in the country and the potential for terrorist offences to he directed to large groupings of footballer supporters in confined areas.

Banning orders have nowt to do with fifa or uefa

I stand corrected then. I was under the impression that they were due to pressure on the FA from the governing bodies to reduce the ability of the hooligans to travel which saw the introduction of them as new legislation?

I'm against hooliganism when innocent people get hurt, however when its ours versus the others its only natural you want our side to win. I cant understand why some posters seem to want us to lose ?
Plain to see that there was a huge amount of planning went into the Russian attacks just look at the picture of about 100 of them all waiting down a side street with chairs over their backs ready to attack.
Its caught everyone by surprise not least the fans over there, however now everyone knows how they work I'm betting that the remaining ones out there and the new lads going out will be a lot better organised/ stick together and by shear numbers alone the Ruskies wont be getting as much joy.
It'll only get worse, the boxing club by me are "outraged" and talking about a spontaneous club tour:neutral: things will continue to escalate imo until the French police have a zero tolerance approach

No man, you're missing the point completely. Nobody is condoning the actions of a certain section of our support. What people are concerned about is the pre-meditated and organised levels of violence the Russians have gone to France with and got away with.
There has just been a press interview with the head cop in Marseille, ten in court today ,6 british,3 french and an austrian, 2 russians have been deported and 3 germans are awaiting trial. In the questions from the press he was asked how come in a town like Marseille with so many cctv cameras a gang of 150 russian hooligans weren't spotted before they arrived in the the old port. He just coughed abit with a panic look on his face and answered we're looking into that these things take time, next question please. They know they fucked up.

Banning orders are imposed by our police. Each country has their own means of policing events. Uefa, fifa and the fa have nothing to do with it.

Unless it is in the stadium.

So the regional and international governing bodies won't have had any influence on the national governing body who didn't put pressure on the govt to change legislation nor resist said legislation?

The Russki's, along with most foreign hoolies, see the English as the holy grail/founders of hooliganism. It's noticeable how these things are allowed to go on at club and international level with seemingly little done by FIFA and UEFA in other nations but England appear to have draconian measures in place to discourage this here.

Draconian measures? Surely that is the opposite of what we have, if anything this has shown how well the police manage football matches in this country these days. When was the last time you saw tear gas and batons being used indiscriminately on fans in this country?

I was meaning how you automatically get banned for 3 years on conviction including even if it's not at the ground, i.e on trains etc.

I very much doubt the other 298 have spontanouesly decided to go home so things arent going to improve soon.

I still can't see how that is draconian? You start violence in the name of football and you get banned, what is wrong with that? Sends out a clear message and everyone knows the rules.

Did I say it did?

No, you said "on several occasions English fans have also been guilty of this. I've seen it" in response to my point regarding the level of pre-meditated and organised violence the Russians have carried out in France.

You've declined to actually explain the relevance or indeed the reasoning behind that point.

Which is why I asked what the relevance or you post was, and whether your post indicated that our past behaviour was sufficient justification for current events.

Half the support in and around foreign grounds would be on banning orders especially in the more far flung and hot blooded regions of Europe that hadn't enjoyed the enrichment of our Northern Protestant culture.

My reasoning being that the faux outrage that Russians are the only culpable fans capable of pre meditated violence. I've seen it in the past with England fans & im not justifying either.

I see. Well I'm not indicating, and I'm certainly not aware of any others who are, that Russians are indeed the only ones capable of pre-medidated violence. I agree with you there. The evidence I've seen so far suggests they are in this instance nevertheless.
