Going to the match by yourself.

lived in London in 1980s and went to all but a few South east games on my todd. Straight to buffet car on the train and soon had a new best friend(s) for the duration of the afternoon drinking and match.

I've attended SOL a few times on my todd. While game is on it is fine.
This reminds me of my ex father-in-law refusing to go to gigs on his own, on the grounds people might think he's gay
brilliant

been to a couple of gigs when people cannot go last minute. I'd rather be on my own than with someone who isn't into the band.

Son can't make it & a couple of mates are working.. 1st time I will be going on my Todd. Feels a bit strange.

Anyone else ever been by themselves or am I being an insecure bell end? 😃
Many a time. Mate stopped going and had a season ticket for 2 years on my own. Bit chin wag with people next to you. No bother at all.

Been to a few midweek cup games , especially the papa johns/checkatrade ones on my own. Normally go for some food first and that looks more strange than going to the match. But I’m comfortable doing that as well.

This question gets asked a lot and it baffles me every time.

I can’t comprehend not being able to go somewhere by yourself. Did West Ham away on my own when I was 15 after a mate dropped out the night before and since then I’ve lost count of how many matches and holidays I’ve done on my own. It’s class

I use to go all over as a teenager and quite often on my own. The perk of British Raill employment 😊like you say its class and the moment you see the red and white hordes or even a trickle iike an away Anglo Italian cup midweek away game, it's amazing stuff.

Great.
Go where you like, stand/sit where you like, drink where you like. Whats not to like?
Some very insecure people worried about being seen on their own and looking sad.

Remember the first time I went to the SOL, I was on my own. Drove all the way up from Devon. I was so f***ing excited to see this magnificent new shiney stadium.
Midweek game v QPR.
Parked up near the Bus Station, about 4 hrs before kick off.
Went for a pint, but couldn't settle. Too excited. Walked towards the groung by Vaux, towards the bridge, and bang, there it was. f***ing hell. I don't mind admitting, I had to wipe away a tear. What a f***ing site, with the lights, proudly posing there, almost like a Roman amphitheatre. I was so proud.
Gates weren't even open when I arrived, so I walked around it several times, just soaking it all in.
Nobody else would have done that with me. They would have thought I was f***ing nuts.
Still a very special night in my memory.
Never forget it.

Reading through this thread it’s funny to think that so many of the posters on here will probably have sat right next to each other without realising, especially at away matches.

Been going solo for years now, suits me fine.

Yonks ago went with my brother and my wife during the 70s.

Went for years after that just with my brother, mainly 90's to 00's

Then went by myself and while not mates, same ST holders next to me every game provides a social side. 10's

Rarely have a drink because i prefer to drive down, though Metro is usable if i fancy a beer.

Done it in both Sunderland and Rome. Miles easier in Sunderland as the people surrounding you don't tend to speak Italian, and on the way to the match you don't have to be thankful your wearing the right colours.

Probably be hundreds in the stadium who actually go to games on their own, few who sit near me who come in on their own. Done it few times if bairn was ill etc or cup games where mates haven’t went, never had a problem with it personally.
Bet there's more than that as well

Loads. When I used to actually go. I went in my own to Roker Park after Dad decided he didn’t want to go anymore. I married a Sunderland lass and lived in Sandringham Road for a bit.

Then Dad started going again, with me, probably Mick Buxton days. So we were able to share the Peter Reid seasons and the SoL move and everything.

But I went to a lot of away matches on my own. Separation and divorce meant I had a lot of time on my own.

Stopped going during Steve Bruce’s time. Then Dad passed and I didn’t want to go back. So if I went again it would be on my own and an away game closer to where I live or a 5 to 6 hour drive from East Yorkshire.

But none of that would bother me. It would be the clart on if getting a ticket to be honest. If I was to go it would be a spontaneous decision. And I don’t thing spontaneous football match attendance is possible anymore at any level about 2nd division. Happy to be educated.

The whole idea that it's strange to be on your own is strange.
