God

What if Hell is a good place for evil people to end up in though? Satan is God's big enemy, and spends all his time trying to tempt people into evil, according to the bible. So why would the devil play along with his hated rival's rules and make life miserable for all the sinners he successfully recruited to the evil side. I reckon Satan would reward the worst sinners by giving them whatever they want for eternity.

If Heaven and Hell do exist there's a good chance that Hell is actually a version of paradise for the most evil people who ever lived to carry on enjoying their debauched atrocities, because God foolishly put Lucifer in charge of it.
I don't think it works like that. An evil force in this life would still be an evil force in the next. Its all a bit vague and wooly as Father Ted once said, will let a theologian dicuss your points. For the atheists, what created us, the earth, everything around us ?

I don’t know what created us but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the godhead of any religion I’m aware of.

I don't think it works like that either, because I don't believe it exists. But if it does exist, why would Satan punish people for doing what he wanted them to do? Why would the devil be complicit in his sworn enemy's peculiarly binary system of justice? Satan really wants people to be as evil as possible.

Say I'd been a little bit naughty in life, maybe a bit of petty theft here and there, and believed in the concepts of Heaven/Hell as laid down in the bible. If I was nearing the end of my life and reckoned I was likely going to Hell, I'd go as totally evil as possible on the grounds that Satan would be far more welcoming of a really evil bastard than some sort of lily-livered part-time sinner. An eternity floating about in Heaven sounds boring as fuck anyway.

Looks like the atheists have more important business elsewhere. Where can you find a good atheist when you need one?

The proposition I agree with that I was discussing with Kent is logically sound imo:

Therefore the universe/reality as we know it could neither have been created by an external god or emerged from absolute nothing. You don't need to be a physicist to consider this but just capable of understanding simple logic.

This then logically leads to the conclusion that the universe self-actualised.

Therefore the universe was an emanation rather than a creation.

Aliens ? The religious would say God but the atheists would say not but obviously something did create us and if we believe Brian Cox must have been pretty good to build the universe as its pretty big.

Billy Joel summed it up thusly,
"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun"

Aliens doesn’t really solve the question, they may have created us but then who created them? I don’t pretend to know, just don’t think it’s a “ God”.

Guess we'll never know, maybe run into a ghost or something to enlighten me. Not bashing people's beliefs, just not for me. Might have doubts on my death bed, hopefully not for a while, yet

My dad always said the sensible thing to do is to renounce sin and find god on your deathbed as if they don’t exist you’ve lost nowt but if they do exist you’ve won big.

Why cant people just live by the creed "dont be a c**t,"

On an objective level if someone told you they believe in a magical sky fairy, who governs their actions you have them commited for mental assessment

Lost my mam a few weeks ago, she was a practising catholic and lived her life by her catholic faith. I too am catholic but not practising.
My mam never hurt a fly, she put others 1st her entire life, she was a good beautiful human being, she was a well liked lady with good values.
No god would put my mam through what she went through the last 6 months of her life, in particular the last 2 weeks of pain and suffering and fighting for breath.
I did believe that there must be a point to our existence on earth but after watching my poor mam suffer the way she did I now think that if that was meant to be a test of her faith in god then why did god make her suffer so cruelly. We were taught that god loves everyone, I could not love someone and put them through what my mam suffered. I prayed to god, our lady, even family members that had already passed to ease her pain. Nothing happened except my mam suffered more, it would hurt her to hear me say this but I dont believe there is a god, once we are dead we are gone for ever. Kills me to say that because I hate to think that I will never see my mam again.
Very sorry for your loss. Yes, unfortunately, terrible suffering contradicts the notion of a 'loving all powerful God'. It's irreconcilable.

Would probably consider myself agnostic at least in the sense I wouldn’t be here if something or someone didn’t put me here. I’m probably leaning towards atheism side of things.

I’ve been Christened as a Protestant and then Baptised Romanian Orthodox before I got married, I think both are a crock of shit.

Just try to be a decent person. Surely it’s not that hard?

Interesting video. Not sure about the Biblical connections and those regarding various numbers etc, but neurology is certainly going to answer many questions in the future, The pineal gland is derived from the same DNA as the optic nerve and is undoubtably what is referred to as the Third Eye in some disciplines. Other significant parts of the brain are the visual cortex and the auditory cortex. The pituitary gland also controls other glands that release chemicals. I found the part about the spinal cord related to Kundalini Yoga and in fact considering the above it is worth noting that the disciples of Jesus in acts describe several experiences involving sight (light), sound (many thunders/many voices) and the living waters (nectar) and certainly appear to have been intoxicated at times from the experiences as described in Acts.

However, the thread is about a Creator God and this is something else, an inner experience which some meditations clearly facilitate.

Seems to be very few if any true believers on here from a review of this thread.
I disagree with this. The root of all evil and 99% of conflicts are instigated by men, they may do it in the name of religion, or ethnicity, or territory or even non religion, but it's all about power, getting that power and retaining that power. Mind you some say/think God is a man too so hardly surprising.
And resources.

believe, yes or no?
Mam is well into her faith, my sister learned to be Catholic (we're C&E family). I'm atheist, black sheep of the family

If there is one I’m sure He would not have allowed that abomination of feminism Loose Women to be on our screens almost continuously on ITV every day of the week for years.
