Go North East to strike

Surely it is possible to vote to extend the strike mandate?
May well be able to have a vote before the end so any subsequent strike follows on instantly, I’ve no idea tbh whether that would be legal.
what wouldn’t be legal is just voting to carry the same strike on as it were, it would have to be a new mandate asfaik

I thought you could vote to extend the mandate.

You cant ballot to strike on the same issue but if you change the reason for strike, its legal.

Not what I heard... some progress made but sticking points which could hopefully be resolved at next meeting.
I read online this is the 16th or 17th pay meeting with only 1 offer put to the table? Nigel will only provide an offer apparently if UNITE fully endorse it which I can't see happening personally....

Going to be some irony when they get better pay but loose their jobs because another operator has taken over their routes.

Which other operator do you think has the capacity in extra drivers and buses to take over " their" routes?

Anyone with the right operators licence can start a bus service on those ( not thier, they don't own the routes) yet no one does.

All 3 big operators in the northeast don't have enough drivers to cover the routes they have registered at the level they are legally required to do.

This despite there being a massive surplus of qualified drivers. Drivers who will not work for them because they are such awful employers.

I do think they will be even shorter of drivers post strike, many are there through inertia, their wage and conditions have been ground down for decades, drip drip drip, and they will have had a look at a life away from that shite.

According to some on this thread, they are making money on parcels and Uber, some will see it as a better move.

BBC News - Go North East drivers in Canada in bid to stop strikes

Bus man's holiday etc 😉
Luckily am at work or would have literally loudly burst out laughing

As it is had a small snigger. This is an international dispute now says the quote

The people of Toronto, Canada are very concerned that residents in their name sake village in the Co Durham can't get a bus

Absolutely deluded whoppers

It’s another level of delusion.

It actually shows how desperate the drivers and union have become. Victory in sight for GNE

It's a regional dispute in the UK

Am I reading that right?...

...Unite have flown to Canada to meet a Canadian trade union ?

And taken a couple of striking bus drivers with them

Not to meet the investors in Go Ahead at all

To apply "international pressure"? In what is an "international dispute"?

WTAF? Just a bloody jolly that

Wonder if the United Nations are aware
