Glazers seeking to sell Man Utd

How the fook do u get that deep in shit? My bank sends me a txt when i am getting close to zero balance! Football is knackered!
Easy: be bought by a billionaire who immediately pays himself back the money he used to buy the club (ie he ends up buying ManU with Manu's money) and subsequently hires all his family onto the board so they can pay themselves squillions of quid of Man U's money.

A wise man once said, you owe a bank 100 quid its your problem you owe a bank 1bn quid its there problem

Annoyingly the Glaziers sell the club for 4bn they walk away with 3bn in profit
Bare in mind they didn't pay a penny for the club and purchased it through leveraging the income & only paying interest on the debt.

That's how capitalism works

They didn't have a penny of debt and were (I think) the biggest commercially profitable club in the world when they bought them. Aren't they now only behind Barcelona with regards to money owed?

and now the Glazers want £6bn?

A billion in debt and trying to buy Kane for 80m

Football is fucked
I agree football is fucked but debt is only bad once you can't afford to pay it back, Man Utd see Kane as an asset that will gain them more than £80m so really it's a 'good' deal for them.

If they dont get into Europe for a few years and are not getting top money for sponsorship and full houses that's when the debt is a worry, so they'll buy the best players to stop that.

They’ve spent over 500m in the last five seasons with no real intention of addressing the debt. With Kane that rises to 600m.

Season tickets don’t creat much income. I agree they need European money and big sponsors but also bear in mind Old Trafford is in much need of extensive repairs or a rebuild.

Addressing debt isn't something they would necessarily see as a priority.

If they think they can generate a better return than the cost of the debt, then it doesn't make sense to repay the debt. It could actually make sense to take on more debt.

It's a bit like wealthy students who don't need student loans but take them out anyway because they can get a better return on the money. Mega rich people will often still take out huge mortgages on their properties even when they could buy without a mortgage, because they'll get a better return elsewhere on that money than the cost of the mortgage.

Then why sell?

Season tickets (match day sales) will still be north of £60m.

The level of debt doesn't bother the owners and the banks, it's as long as they pay interest each month and they still do, 500 or 600 isn't much difference to them. Obviously to a fan this is a joke and shows how screwed football is though as the amount of money wasted on interest is obscene.

The old Trafford issue is huge though and will be a head ache for any new owner, but they'll just get debt to build that and it'll pay for itself, it's the moving from the old stadium that's the issue.

If it was any other business with the same outgoings and income it wouldn't be worth a fraction of the £5b reported, but then 95% of clubs wouldn't exist.
Then why sell?
Not all the family want to sell for market price, they are willing to for £5b+ but market share price values it around half that and some of the brothers/sisters would rather hold it at that price.

The daft thing is that with the profile of the game as it currently is and the nature of the bidders they could well get it.

This isn't a business sale in the normal sense, particularly for an oil rich nation state like Qatar, but a trophy asset that gives them bragging rights over their neighbours as well as an advertising platform for their rebranding exercises.

Season tickets don’t offer much in the overall scheme - running costs of over 700 million

…..and your line about football being screwed is 100% spot on
