Glamorgan not allowed to play an English player

Kind of a clickbait thread title. But wasn't sure how to put it.

Pretty ridiculous rule this mind. An English born player who lived here till he was 24 but moved to Aus is classed as an overseas player

He moved to Australia, applied for residency and played for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield as a local player. Therefore, while he can play for Glamorgan as a domestic player, he wouldn't be eligible to play for England till 2022. This means they can't claim £70k from the ECB from a budget intended to encourage the creation of England players.

Them's the breaks really. If he had been a better player, a. he could still be playing for Queensland and even Australia, b. Glamorgan would consider the one-off £70k hit worth taking due to the quality he brings to the team, c. He could play club cricket before trying out at another county next year, where he will have the edge over non England eligible players.

Glamorgan are claiming £70k for Nick Selman, an Australian born and raised batsman, who qualifies for England under the same rules, so I have no sympathy for them.

I feel for the player.

I don't care what the rules say but Sam Robson,Keaton Jennings, Sam Hain or as you say Nick Selman. Should not be able to play ahead of an actual English person who moved to Australia for a job like millions before him.

Like the equivalent of someone like Steve Mcmanaman not being able to come back to England from real Madrid and city having to pay the FA a million quid and if they didn't he'd have to play for someone like Marine if he wanted to play football in England
Actually it's not really the same, re-reading your post.

But it's bollocks that someone who is completely English has to re-qualify.

Get it for someone like Jennings but not in a case like this

If Jennings went back to South Africa to play 1st class cricket then he would be classed as "Overseas". Exactly the same as this scenario.

But he is allowed to play for Glamorgan but Glamorgan aren't prepared to forfeit £70k to select him. Nothing wrong with the concept of incentives for playing England qualified youngsters.
Cue shouts of racist from the woke brigade.

Yeah but he's barely english.

He had an English mum and came here as an 18/19 year old.

Different to being born here and only leaving at 24 for a job.

They shouldn't have to make the call and as shown it makes a mockery of the concept when Selman counts as home grown for Glamorgan.

As do the vast amount of South African/ Australian/West Indian/Zimbabwe/New Zealand "England" players in the game past and present.
They're all here for better playing prospects/money.

IRL you can have multiple nationalities.

In cricket you can only play for one country at a time.

That's the reason
