To all of you 'older' lot, was it really as big a joke as it seems now, looking back? Glitter, make up on blokes and a vehicle as 70s teen phenomena to shift records?
I quite like the handclaps used.
And 'Son of My Father' by Chicory Tip.

It was all teenage female shite, apart from Ambrose Slade. They were a f***ing top notch band. Brilliant live anarl.

I've decided I like 'Angel Face' by The Glitter Band too.
Did you dress up like your heroes like Joe or what?
I can imagine you bowling down the road to the ice cream van in your mirrored top hat and platforms like.

Love the two 'classic' T.Rex albums. Backing vocals are sublime.

Slade had some great riffs, Take Me Bak 'Ome. Couldn't spell mind.

They had shit hair too but at least they wrote (and played) their own songs.
A rarity these days for 'pop' groups.

saw Gary Glitter and the Glitter Band live at the Top Hat in Spennymoor in the early 70's and they were tremendeous.

Does my tits in. Who cares who writes the stuff? It's entertainment. Surely you pays your money and enjoy the performance, does it matter who wrote the songs? Maybe more kudos if you have actually written the stuff but at the end of the day, its a means to an end. Providing entertainment?

The music was passable in bits. The fashion was unforgivable. Even worse than that New Romantic shite that came afterwards.

Ever heard of the phrase "emotional investment?"

Glam rock. Is it really any different from the bling that we see now?

It's all about blokes saying I'm here, I'm visible - please fuck me. Another trend.

I enjoyed the music, far, far better than what passes as music today.
The fashion of those eras now appears crap because you are looking back at it, it was fine for the time. Flairs & platform shoes were great back in the seventies, seem a bit naff now though.

And every man married around that time did so with a kipper tie on the photos. I agree. Music wise it encomassed quite a wide rande of stuff. Alice Cooper, Slade, Roxy Music. All good stuff which has stood the test of time.

A lot of stuff from the seventies are classics & we'll still be playing them in another 30/40 years time. I don't think you'll be able to say that about much from this era.
 Kipper ties, they were hideous, a fashion must at the time though. Paisley pattern, lovely.:)

The last SAFC heyday was when glam was at it's nadir. Perhaps there is summat innit. Always look back at pics and stuff of '73 and think "wtf are you wearing" now as much Porterfield's goal as Monty's save's tbh. The latter part of that sentence might not be true btw.

I dunno. I'm laughing at fashion right now. It's all about youth. You've got to be able to look back and think 'Jesus. What was i thinking?' ;)

And that fucker goes for Morrissey too.

17 posts in and no mention of Bowie who was the King of glam?

I was too young to be into it much at the time but confess to saying in the juniors my three favorites were Slade, Sweet and Gary Glitter. I still say between them they played some of the best pop ever which has had a wide influence, but Bowie from Ziggy to Aladdin to Diamond Dogs was more rock than pop and while I was aware of him and his iconic cherry red spike, didn't know much of his music beyond the singles.
Recently listened to David Live which captures this era and it's all f***ing brilliant. Sweet Thing/Candidate - amazing that someone so young wrote all that stuff and while I'm not into indulgent guitar heroics Slick is the mutt's nuts.
Then he just turned his back on the lot and came back with Young Americans which he never toured behind but is o eof my favorite ever albums although nowt like glam.
Then he nashed off to Berlin with Eno and did the three synth albums.
But his glam rock period sets the whole standard for me and very few other rock acts could match him back then.
