Strange that something positive is only on 60 replies.
Good read that.
That would be bloody funny if it wasn't so true. As it is it is just sad. Fair play to anyone has enough about them to look at something objectively, arrive at their own conclusions, and argue them accordingly. But for about 99% of those most vehemently defending what Quinn had said, and villainising those who were criticising it, all they could manage to come up with to justify their opinion amounted to "coz Niall said so, innit".

Bollocks. Anything that was positive or argued accordingly was ignored or lost in amongst pages and pages of hysterical drivel and instead threads were full of people, like you, who were right no matter what.
Yes, there were a few who just hang on every word but there are more than enough who can think for themselves and have different views to you and your mates sitting around the poker table.
The second a deabte got into a 2nd or 3rd round those on "team Quinn" just started telling you that your opinion is worthless because you are an ungrateful crote who was completely against their exhalted and unquestionable leader.
I believe in my own opinion and I will happily state it, justify it, and defend it if need be. I never believe I am "right" though. I am a historian. I believe in multipal justifyable interpretations, not absolutes. But, to be honest, on those threads I, and most who shared my opinion, spent considerably more time defending our right to interpret what Quinn had said in the first place rather than discussing what our actual interpretation was - largely for the reasons I stated above.
Only you.Are you suggesting we are all racists?
There are numpties on both sides of the fence. For example, I spent ages trying to explain that Quinn wasn't having a go at people living in Perth etc when he was mentioning people watching in pubs but it didn't stop toys being chucked into the Pacific. I thought your original post honked of arrogance when you put 99% into the, "coz Niall said so, innit" category just because they had a different opinion to you. Why, because an opinion is different to yours does that make the person a txt spk dipstick as you inferred?
If it was an attempt at humour then ok, it just doesn't read that way.
I was expressing the fact that I consider anyone who is happy to throw around personal abuse to people who they disagree with yet totally unable to justify their own argument to be individuals of genuine stupidity and using the txt spk as a symbol of that. I suppose that some people would call it arrogance, but that doesn't bother me really.
The 99% was an exageration but not by too much I think. I have had a couple of very decent debates with people who are supportive of what Quinn has said and from the way they have expressed it it is clear it is an opinion they have arrived at independently. Got no issues with those people at all. In fact I have nothing but respect for them. But you have to remember that for the likes of Superkev and me, we have spent the last few days being accused of being ungrateful to Quinny and undeserving of him. The actual nub of what we have been saying has been ignored and we have simply been told that disagreeing with Quinn is enough for us to be unambiguously wrong. It is that I take exception to.
So 99% of a handful of people are stupid. Not 99% of the people vehemently defending Quinn and his comments.
It happens on nearly every subject and from both camps.
