Git big drill bit

Help needed please.

Got a solid formed, moulded bird bath in the garden that I want to incorporate into a water feature. This means I need to drill through the pedestal up into the bath section and through the centre so I can run a tube inside to pump water through. It's about 4.5ft in height.

Anyone know if there is anyone who could drill through this for me locally? (Sunderland area) Or where I could get the bit to do it myself?

If it's possible at all of course.

are you certain its all solid ?? if your lucky it may have a hollow centre ??? you can get metre long drill bits but will cost a fortune for a one off job tbh

is it concrete resin? What size hole? a masonry core drill will do it i reckon, screwfix have them in stock. go slowly ( drilling I mean, not driving to screwfix)

To the best of my knowledge, based on tapping up and down the length, it appears to be solid.

Just checking on the size of whole I need. Yes it appears to be a concrete resin. Looked at scewfix like but they had nowt long enough as far as i could see.

Thanks for the help though lads.

surely 10-12 mm hole will be big enough to slide a pipe up?? other than that you could always fasten the pipe to the back of the statue (hidden) ?and drill a shorter length hole from the top to the back?

If bits are not big enough can you not just drill as far as you can from the top then turn it over and drill again to meet it. Pretend your doing a mini eurotunnel.

Thats always been Plan B, but would rather have it completely concealed. Also considered chiseling a chanel down the side and the skimming over it after inserting the tube.

I'm letting a stinking frenchman in my garden!

Found the right bits but will need to hire a SDS hammer drill to use them apparently,

Take it to a machinist.

Probably cost a bit like.

Well, aye, thats what I thought like. But who and where?

Mate you should just buy yourself one rather then hire. Wilkinsons sells some decent cheap hammer drills.

you're looking at at least a hundred quid for a decent sds hammer drill

I take it SDS isnt your standard hammer drill then?
no mate, more powerful hammer blows. dunno if bakerlooline would want one though, he'd need to go slowly to avoid the thing shattering

added to the fact he has probably not got an sds drill either the cost of this little project is rapidly rising :)
